OKLAHOMA CITY - For the second time this season, Mid-America Christian University's Alexis Shannon has been named the Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week.
Shannon was named as the winner by the SAC on Monday afternoon, marking the fourth time she has garnered the honor in just over a season and a half at MACU.
The 5-11 junior guard from Noblesville, Indiana posted her second straight double-double - and her third of the season - on Saturday when she poured in 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds against Southwestern Christian University. Shannon scored 10 points in the opening quarter, and she never looked back, finishing the first half with 16 points and nine rebounds as MACU led by nine at the break. She finished the second have with another 10 points, and in the process, she moved past 750 career points in only 44 games. She currently sits just 225 points away from becoming the first scorer to reach the 1,000 point milestone since MACU joined the NAIA.
Shannon and the Evangels will wrap up a 3-game home stand with a pair of 6 p.m. tip-offs this week. MACU will play the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma (6-7, 1-4 SAC) on Tuesday evening, and they will take on the Bacone College Warriors (0-9, 0-6 SAC) on Thursday.
