GREENVILLE, S.C. – After putting together a strong opening performance against Manhattan Christian on Friday, Mid-America Christian women's basketball senior forward Alexis Shannon was named the first NCCAA Division I Women's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week of the 2019-20 season on Monday.
The Noblesville, Indiana native scored 28 points on 12-of-15 shooting to go along with six rebounds, two assists and two steals in just 23 minutes of action against the Thunder on Friday.
Shannon's scoring effort moved her past Ashley Hewitt for sixth all-time in career scoring in MACU history, putting her at 1240 career points in just her third season at Mid-America Christian. Shannon eclipsed Hewitt during the first half after picking off a pass at midcourt and taking it in for a fast break layup.
In that matchup against the Thunder, the Evangels recorded the most points in a single game in program history with the 130-39 victory, surpassing the previous best of 124 set in a 124-48 win at home against Bacone College last season on Jan. 10, 2019.
Mid-America Christian will be back in-action on Friday as MACU will host Evangel University in a crucial non-conference showdown at 6 p.m. in the Gaulke Activity Center.
