OKLAHOMA CITY – After leading the No. 3 Mid-America Christian men's basketball team to a comeback victory at Texas A&M-Texarkana last week, senior guard/forward Ashford Golden was selected as the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
In the 90-81 win, Golden recorded his first career double-double by scoring a career-high 26 points and ripped down 12 rebounds to go with four assists and two steals. The hometown product shot 9-for-21 from the floor in 37 minutes of action.
Golden notched 15 of his 26 points in the first half, but the Evangels trailed TAMUT 44-40 at the break. While the Eagles were able to limit the lanky guard/forward to just 11 points in the second half, it opened up opportunities for his teammates as Golden dished out all four of his assists in the second half as the Evangels overcame an eight-point second half deficit.
So far this season, Golden is averaging 15.2 points per game, ranking second on the team and ninth in the SAC while also possessing the 15th best shooting percentage in the conference at 43.2 percent.
Mid-America Christian is currently preparing for one of its toughest road contests of the season as the Evangels will head to Chickasha, Okla. on Friday to take on Science & Arts. The game is slated for a 7:45 p.m. tip-off at the USAO Fieldhouse.
