Two Finish in Top-10 as Men's Golf Goes Low at Eagle Spring Classic

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - Despite the weather, Tuesday was a very good day for the Mid-America Christian University men's golf team.

MACU fired a final round 305 - the low team round of the day - in the final round of the Eagle Spring Classic hosted by Oklahoma Wesleyan University, and as a result, the Evangels moved four spots up the leaderboard in the final standings, finishing just four strokes behind Northwestern College (Iowa) who is receiving votes in the current NAIA top-25 coaches' poll.

The day started well, with MACU posting a 1-under par score through the first four holes before a rain delay forced the golfers from the course. When play resumed, Austin Davis, Gage Gibson, and Isaac Maston attacked the course and scoring conditions were good.

Davis played his outward nine in 2-under par, and he carded birdies on the first, seventh, and eighth holes. He added another birdie on the 13th hole and he fired a 74 for the round, moving 26 spots up the leaderboard and finishing in a tie for 13th.

Maston birdied the first, sixth, and seventh holes on his way to a 75, and Gibson matched that score with birdies on the seventh and eighth holes. Maston climbed all the way into a tie for second in the event at 7-over par (76-75; 151), and Gibson charged up 16 places from his overnight spot to finish alone in seventh place (78-75; 153).

MACU had a total of 10 birdies as a team in the round, with Kaden Upton posting a birdie on the 10th hole as well. Upton finished tied for 34th (80-81; 161), and Wyatt Bonds rounded out the Evangels in the field by finishing in a tie for 45th (81-85; 166).

The Evangels passed Columbia College (Mo.), Central Baptist College (Ark.), Kansas Wesleyan University, and the hosts from Oklahoma Wesleyan University in the 18-hole round.

MACU will resume their spring schedule in the Bethel (Kan.) Spring Classic on April 6-7.
