Women’s Basketball To Face SW Christian, No. 2 Oklahoma City At SAC Midway Point

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian women's basketball team will wrap up the midway point of Sooner Athletic Conference play with a home meet-up with Southwestern Christian on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. before heading to face crosstown rival, No. 2 Oklahoma City at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25.

LAST TIME OUT

Mid-America Christian (13-4, 6-2 SAC) split a home and away doubleheader last week, dropping an 80-64 decision at Texas Wesleyan on Jan. 16 before bouncing back with a thrilling 76-73 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God at the Gaulke Activity Center on Saturday.

In the loss to the Lady Rams, the Evangels struggled to defend TWU's perimeter game as the Lady Rams made a program-record 15 three-pointers. Senior forward Alexis Shannon led MACU with 22 points on 10-of-17 shooting to go with six rebounds in defeat.

In the victory over the Lady Lions, the Evangels had their backs against the wall in the back-and-forth battle when SAGU's Lexi Rich got a steal and layup off an in-bound pass to give the Lady Lions an 83-82 edge with 15 seconds to go. On the ensuing possession, Shannon was able to draw a foul and converted a pair of clutch free throws to reclaim an 84-83 lead with 14 seconds left. On SAGU's final offensive possession, the Lady Lions got a couple of looks at a go-ahead bucket, but Loralei Siliga was able to come down with a defensive rebound, immediately drew a foul and put the Evangels up by three from the free throw line with three seconds left to seal the win.

Shannon once again was dominant, rattling off a team-high 24 points, 15 of which came in the third quarter on 8-of-17 from the field, 3-for-5 from the three-point arc and 5-of-6 from the foul line to go with eight rebounds and three steals. Junior guard Lexi Hernandez poured in a career-high 21 points on 7-for-11 shooting, going 3-of-5 from behind the three-point line and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe to go with a team-leading four steals.
