OKLAHOMA CITY – After leading the Mid-America Christian women's basketball team to its best start in Sooner Athletic Conference play since the 2013-14 season, senior forward Alexis Shannon was named the SAC Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday.

In a busy week for the Evangels, Shannon averaged 19 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game while converting on 48 percent of her shot attempts in wins over Kansas Wesleyan, Bacone College and John Brown.

Shannon nabbed a pair of double-doubles on the week, ripping down 13 boards and scoring 10 points in the 64-61 win over Kansas Wesleyan on New Year's Eve and followed it up with 17 points and 10 rebounds in an 85-48 victory at Bacone College on Thursday.

In a comeback victory over John Brown on Saturday, Shannon tied her season-high scoring output with 30 points on 12-of-23 shooting while going 3-of-8 from the three-point arc to go with six boards and a pair of assists.

In the midst of her most productive offensive season at MACU, Shannon currently ranks second in the SAC at 18.8 ppg and fifth in rebounding at 7.6 rpg.

It is the second straight week the Evangels received the honor after senior forward Loralei Siliga received the SAC Player of the Week award on Dec. 16, prior to the start of the holiday break.

The Evangels are off to their best start in conference play since opening the 2013-14 campaign with league victories over Texas Wesleyan, Science & Arts, Southwestern Assemblies of God and Northwood (Texas) when it was still a league-affiliated school. With an 11-2 overall record, Mid-America Christian is also off to its best start since the 2016-17 season.

Mid-America Christian is preparing for a challenging road swing this week as the Evangels will play at No. 6 Wayland Baptist at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9 before heading to Oklahoma Panhandle State for a 2 p.m. battle on Saturday, Jan. 11.
