Women’s Soccer Wins Third Straight In Shutout Over Arizona Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian women's soccer team moved to 3-0 on the season with another strong non-conference showing against Arizona Christian as a pair of goals by Liz Lozano and Kelsey Henry propelled the Evangels to a 4-0 victory over the Firestorm on Thursday.

SCORING SUMMARY

MATCH SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian (3-0) jumped out in-front when Liz Lozano successfully pulled off a give-and-go pass from the left side toward Kyleigh Gibson screeching down the right side. Gibson broke into the goal box and crossed it back over to a wide open Lozano in the middle of the goal box from about three yards out, punching it into the open left corner of the net to make it 1-0 MACU.
  • With just under 12 minutes to go in the first half, Arizona Christian (1-2) had a shot at an equalizer, but Adrianna Contreras' rocket shot from 19 yards out on the right side pinged off the right post and out the right side for a MACU throw-in.
  • The Evangels scored an insurance goal just before the half in the 38th minute when Gibson streaking down the right side was able to deliver a long pass to the left side of the box to Sylvie Willie, who tapped a pass back middle to Lozano for her second goal of the match, sending the Evangels into the break with a 2-nil advantage.
  • Kelsey Henry notched her first goal of the match in the 68th minute with some stellar ball movement. On the play, Lozano delivered a pass from just outside the 18-yard box to Gibson breaking down the right side, as she tapped a pass back middle for Henry, firing a shot from three-yards out inside the left post to bring the score to 3-0.
  • Henry scored her second of the match with just under 17 minutes left when Brooklyn Fink launched a deep pass from midfield to Henry slipping past the Firestorm defense, as she slipped her shot just past the keeper inside the right post to extend the Evangels' lead to four.
  • MACU's clean sheet was threatened when Jennifer Starwalt was called for a foul inside the goal box with just over 10 minutes remaining, but was able to make up for the miscue by making a strong save on the penalty kick to keep the shutout intact.
