Tony Dorsey Selected As NCCAA Student-Athlete Of The Week

GREENVILLE, S.C. – After making clutch shot after clutch shot for the No. 2 Mid-America Christian men's basketball team this week, junior guard Tony Dorsey was named the NCCAA Division I Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday.

Dorsey led the Evangels to a pair of NAIA Top 25 victories last week, starting it off with a bang by knocking down the game-winning free throws with 0.5 seconds left to lead MACU to an 80-79 victory at No. 15 Southwestern Assemblies of God on Thursday night.

The MACU point man scored just 11 points in the win, but he saved his best for last. After SAGU's Nykolas Mason scored the go-ahead layup with seven seconds left, Dorsey weaved his way through the Lions defense, going the length of the court to put himself in position to take a game-winning three at the buzzer from the top of the key. However, Dorsey was hammered by Mason going up for the potential game-winner and instead took care of business from the charity stripe.

The Shreveport, La. native followed it up with another clutch performance at home against No. 20 Texas Wesleyan. With the Evangels leading by just two with 41 seconds left, Dorsey drained a three from the right wing to extend MACU's edge to five. Even after the Rams fought back to make it a one-possession game with two seconds left, Dorsey drew the foul on the in-bound pass and sank two free throws to seal a 94-89 win.

Dorsey scored a season-high 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting, knocking down 3-for-5 from the three-point arc and knocked down all four of his free throw attempts.

With the Mid-America Christian men's basketball team posting a 25-1 overall record and a 15-1 mark against Sooner Athletic Conference competition with just two weeks left in the regular season, the Evangels have been particularly great against ranked opponents. MACU will wrap up the regular season with a 7-1 record against opponents ranked in the NAIA Top 25.

MACU will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 20 as the Evangels will host crosstown rival Oklahoma City. Tip-off is slated for 7:45 p.m. inside the Gaulke Activity Center.
