Evangels Land Three On All-Oklahoma Sports Net Team

OKLAHOMA CITY – Mid-America Christian men's basketball head coach Josh Gamblin added one more coaching accolade by being selected as the Oklahoma Sports Net Coach of the Year while senior guard/forward Ashford Golden was selected as an All-OSN First Team honoree and Terrance Jones was tabbed to Second Team on Tuesday.

The Oklahoma Sports Net postseason honors are presented to small college basketball players in the state of Oklahoma that compete at either the NCAA Division II or NAIA level.

After completing his fifth season at the helm, Gamblin received his fourth coaching honor after being named the Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, NCCAA Central Region Coach of the Year and NCCAA National Coach of the Year.

Gamblin guided Mid-America Christian to its best ever regular season record during the NAIA era after going 30-2 to finish tied for the best record in the NAIA with Georgetown (Ky.). The Evangels received their first ever No. 1 seed in the NAIA Tournament before the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under Gamblin, the Evangels won just their second SAC Championship after going 19-1 in conference play, becoming the first team in the league to lose just one contest since the 2010 NAIA National Champion Oklahoma Baptist went 21-1 against SAC foes. The last time MACU won the SAC Championship came during the 2014-15 season when MACU went 14-4 in league play, placing a game ahead of Oklahoma City and Wayland Baptist.

To start off the season, Mid-America Christian won its first 20 games, not only setting an NAIA era program record, but also established the longest winning streak since the 2003-04 team won 19 straight on its way to winning the NCCAA Division II National Championship.

In his lone season with the Evangels, Golden showed his talents in a big way by leading the team in scoring (551, 17.2 points per game), rebounding (221, 6.9 rebounds per game) and blocked shots (33). The local Oklahoma City native was the only player in the Sooner Athletic Conference to finish in the top five in each category to become one of just two players in the league to be named a unanimous All-SAC First Team selection.

It is one more honor for the 6-6 combo guard/forward who was not only selected the NCCAA Central Region Player of the Year, but also the NCCAA National Player of the Year.

Jones also continued to rack up the hardware after being named to the All-OSN Second Team. The Evangels' sixth man finished second on the team in scoring (428, 13.8 ppg) while shooting 56.7 percent from the field, the third-best shooting percentage in a single season during the NAIA era.

The Dallas, Texas product also ripped down 180 rebounds (5.8 rpg) while dishing out 52 assists to go with 34 steals. Jones saved his best for last in the season, breaking the 20-point mark in the final six games of the campaign.

Jones was also an All-SAC Second Team selection as well as All-NCCAA Central Region Second Team honoree.
