Shannon Leads Three Evangels On All-SAC Team

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Sooner Athletic Conference officially announced its All-Conference Teams on Thursday, as senior forward Alexis Shannon was tabbed with All-SAC First Team honors while junior guard Lexi Hernandez and senior forward Loralei Siliga were named to the Honorable Mention list.

Earning All-SAC First Team accolades for the third year in a row, Shannon was the unquestioned leader of the Evangels on the offensive end. The Noblesville, Ind. native leads the Evangels at 20.3 points per game as her 628 points is currently the second-most points scored in the NAIA. Shannon is shooting 47.9 percent from the field and is the team's most proficient three-point shooter while knocking down 62.2 percent from the free throw line.

Shannon is also the team's leading rebounder with 237, as her 7.6 rebounds per game ranks as the fifth-best clip in the SAC.

The 5-11 forward became the Evangels' second all-time leading scorer in a 99-50 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Feb. 6 after scoring a career-high 33 points in the contest. Shannon's 33-point mark is the eighth-most points scored in a single game by a MACU player during the NAIA era while her 14 made field goals is the fourth-most, only behind two marks set by Ashlee Ferguson and Kelli Tolar.

In the Evangels' 80-75 victory over Texas Wesleyan in the SAC Quarterfinals, Shannon scored 28 points to set a new career-high in single season scoring and move into second on MACU's NAIA era single season scoring list, only 46 points away from tying Sarai Rodriguez at the top.

Shannon has scored in double-figures in 27 of MACU's 31 games this season, reaching the 20-point plateau 18 times as well as scoring 30 or more points on four occasions.

In her first season with the Evangels, Hernandez earned All-SAC Honorable Mention recognition after putting together one of the best seasons behind the arc for MACU.

The Canyon, Texas product is the squad's second leading scorer at 11.6 ppg while leading the team and ranking sixth in the SAC with 51 steals.

In the Evangels' win over Texas Wesleyan in the SAC Quarterfinal, Hernandez scored 22 points, just two away from matching her career-high. With three made three-pointers in the contest, Hernandez has 78 made triples during the 2019-20 campaign, tying Lindsey Mann for the fifth-most threes made in a single season during the NAIA era and is just six away from tying Evangels' legend Ashlee Ferguson.

Hernandez's best game of the season came in an 83-75 win at John Brown on Jan. 30, scoring a team-high 24 points on 8-for-12 shooting while making 5-of-8 from downtown and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.

Siliga rounds out the MACU honorees while putting together one of the best shooting seasons during the program's NAIA era run.

The Oakland, Calif. product is averaging 9.7 ppg while her 48.8 percent shooting clip is currently on-pace to set the fourth-best single season shooting mark during the NAIA era.

The 5-11 forward earned SAC Player of the Week honors after leading the Evangels to a pivotal 75-73 overtime victory at Science & Arts on Dec. 13, 2019, scoring a career-high 19 points on 7-for-16 from the field and a career-best 3-for-5 from the three-point arc while finishing just a rebound away from a double-double at nine boards.

Mid-America Christian will be competing in its fifth ever SAC Semifinal this weekend and will look to shock the world on Friday. The Evangels will seek an upset over top-seeded and nationally No. 1 ranked Oklahoma City. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. inside the Hutcherson Center on the campus of Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas.
