OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian baseball team continued its dominant run against Bacone as the Evangels swept the Warriors 13-2 and 7-1 at James Curtis Field on Friday.
GAME ONE
Mid-America Christian (17-8) jumped out fast over Bacone (1-19) in the opening game of the series, scoring six runs in the first inning.
Senior left fielder Felix Martinez started the scoring spree with an RBI single up the middle to score Edgar Martinez from second, giving MACU the 1-0 edge while moving two runners into scoring position.
However, it didn't matter where the runners were in the next at-bat bat as junior designated hitter Jaily Paredes launched a three-run homer over the left field fence to extend the MACU lead to 4-0.
The Evangels added two more later in the inning when Edgar Martinez slapped an RBI single to left, scoring a pair to bring the score 6-0.
MACU added one more in the second when Andres Gonzalez hit a sac fly to right, scoring Felix Martinez from third to stretch the edge to seven.
After not getting a run in the third, the Evangels poured it on in the fourth. Upon loading the bases, MACU catcher McKenzie Gross ripped his second hit of the season, a two RBI liner double to left increase the Evangels' edge to nine.
The Evangels brought home two more when Yan Ely Adames was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded followed by a Felix Martinez sac fly to center, setting the score to 11-0.
In the fifth, Gross drove in his third of the game by slapping a single through the hole at second, bringing home Brandon Reese after he reached second on a double to make it a 12-0 MACU advantage.
Bacone finally got on the board in the top of the sixth when BC's Gabriel Luna ripped a two RBI double down the left field line, but Evangels reliever Jairo Aparicio came in and retired the first two batters he faced to get out of the inning.
The Evangels got one back in the bottom of the sixth on a Colin Miner RBI bloop single into shallow right center to score Adames to cap the scoring at 13-2.
Mid-America Christian scored its 13 runs on 12 hits with one error while Bacone tallied its two runs on six hits with three errors.
Gross and Paredes notched three RBIs apiece with Gross slashing 2-for-4 with a run while Paredes went 1-for-5 with all of his RBIs coming off the three-run homer in the first.
Edgar Martinez and Reese each went 3-for-4 for the Evangels, as Martinez notched an RBI and a run while Reese scored once.
Miner reached base five times in the 1-for-1 performance, drawing three walks while also reaching on a hit-by-pitch.
Sophomore starter Ryan Wimbush improved to 4-1 on the season after allowing just two earned runs on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work.
GAME TWO
Mid-America Christian (18-8) found itself down early in the second game of the doubleheader. After Bacone's Vincent Jeter reached on a walk, he advanced to second on a stolen base, reached third on a groundout and then scored on Luke Risenhoover's sac fly to right, making it 1-0 for Bacone (1-20).
The Evangels were quick to get the lead back in the bottom of the frame as the first six batters reached.
Edgar Martinez led off the winning with a double and came around to score off a wild pitch and a passed ball, tying the game at 1-1.
After loading the bases on a single and back-to-back walks, Miner drove in one more when he was hit by a pitch, making it a 2-1 MACU lead.
Gonzalez got MACU another score when his slow dribbler was fielded by the first baseman, but beat out an infield hit to first to score another run.
MACU added one more in the second on a Felix Martinez RBI single and another in the third on an Oliver Martinez sac fly to center, bringing the score to 5-1.
The Evangels got two more in the fifth to cap the scoring off of RBI singles by Joshua Fernandez and Adames to close out a 7-1 victory.
The Evangels scored their seven runs off of 11 hits and played error free baseball while Bacone scored its lone run off three hits.
Adames and Gonzalez had the hot bats in the night cap as each hitter went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Making his first start since Feb. 7, junior Frensly Leito got his first win of the season after throwing five innings and giving up just one earned run on two hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Bernardo Moreno and Christian Ballard also tossed scoreless innings of relief.
Mid-America Christian will wrap-up the four-game series against Bacone with a doubleheader tomorrow with the opening game starting with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
