OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian women's basketball team will be welcoming back one of the most decorated players in program history as the Evangels have officially announced that Alexis Shannon will be returning to MACU as the team's Graduate Assistant Coach.
"I am ecstatic to add Alexis to our coaching staff," said MACU Head Coach Hannah Moeller. "She's been an integral part of our success over the past three years. Her desire to join our staff is a huge blessing. It is a joy to have one of our own stay on board!"
The MACU all-time great will be replacing Logan Martin, who recently accepted the girls' basketball head coaching job at Putnam City High School on the northwest side of Oklahoma City.
Shannon wrapped up her stellar MACU career back in March as the program's second all-time leading scorer, tallying 1853 points over the course of her three-year career.
Shannon is the first player in the history of the program to be both a three-time NAIA All-American and NCCAA All-American, earning honorable mention accolades at the NAIA level and First Team honors at the NCCAA level.
"I am so excited for this opportunity to be a part of the women's basketball team in a new way," said Shannon. "I have played for Coach (Hannah) Moeller for the past three years and now I look forward to learning from her for the next two. She has a great basketball mind and an even better heart. I love this program and I am excited to play a new role in it."
Shannon helped lead MACU to its first ever back-to-back NCCAA National Championships in 2018 and 2019, knocking off Concordia (Mich.) 71-60 on March 17, 2018 before following it up with a thrilling come-from-behind 87-84 victory over Brewton-Parker (Ga.) at the 2019 championship.
The Evangels had once again locked up the NCCAA Central Region automatic bid after concluding the regular season with a 21-11 record. However, MACU's attempt at a three-peat was thwarted as the NCCAA National Championship Tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shannon holds multiple NAIA era career program records, including: points scored (1853), rebounds (757), field goals made (702), field goals attempted (1486), free throws made (345) and free throws attempted (503).
