ATLANTA – For the third straight year, the Mid-America Christian women's basketball team was one of the strongest academically in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as the Evangels were selected to the 2019-20 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NAIA Academic Top 25.
As a team, the Evangels were only one of two teams from the Sooner Athletic Conference selected to the esteemed list that consists of both Division I and Division II schools, turning in its highest ever team grade-point-average of 3.578 to rank 21st nationally for the 2019-20 academic year.
Mid-America Christian moved up a spot from last year's list that saw them finish tied for 22nd in the NAIA with a 3.532 GPA.
The Evangels were selected to the WBCA NAIA Academic Top 25 for the first time following the 2017-18 academic year when MACU accumulated a 3.469 GPA to finish 17th in the nation.
The academic success has gone hand-in-hand with the Evangels' on-court success the last three years. MACU closed out the 2019-20 campaign with its fourth-straight 20-win season.
Mid-America Christian received the automatic bid from the NCCAA Central Region, however, the Evangels bid to win a third-straight NCCAA National Championship was cut short due to the championships being canceled amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier this year, Evangels were also selected as both a SAC and NCCAA Scholar Team while having seven players named to the Academic All-Sooner Athletic Conference Team.
