Volleyball Falls at Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian volleyball team was unable spoil Senior Night at Oklahoma City as the Stars defeated the Evangels 3-0 inside Abe Lemons Arena on Thursday night.

TOP PERFORMERS MATCH SUMMARY
  • Set One
    • Mid-America Christian was able to keep it close in the early going, but Oklahoma City rattled off three in a row to take a 10-6 lead.
    • The Evangels fought back with three unanswered off a Cloie Mitchell kill, a Maddie Callicoat service ace and an assisted block between Vanessa Moriera and Allison Porter, but were unable to draw the set even for the next nine rallies.
    • In the second half of the set, the Evangels surged ahead following a Ruby Kelley attack error by getting kills from Mitchell and Callicoat to make it a 16-15 MACU advantage.
    • Oklahoma City regained control by rattling off six of the next seven to hold a 21-17 edge.
    • MACU fought back by scoring four of the next five with a pair of Porter put-downs and after conceding back-to-back points to bring it to set point, the Evangels retaliated with two unanswered points from Lena Stockhammer. However, the Evangels fell on the ensuing rally on an Ella Lofton kill in a 25-23 defeat.
  • Set Two
    • The Evangels found their backs against the wall early in the second set as the Stars scored nine of the first 12 points.
    • MACU tried to close the gap near the midway point, but OCU utilized a three-unanswered run to stretch the edge to 14-7.
    • Oklahoma City went on a huge run in the second half, rattling off four in a row during a 9-3 run to take its largest lead of the set at 23-12.
    • Mid-America Christian rattled off five of the next six and survived four set points with a pair of blocks from Callicoat, Moriera and Porter with Callicoat also adding a service ace before an untimely service error ended it at 25-17.
  • Set Three
    • Mid-America Christian kept it close through the first 11 rallies as a Callicoat kill brought it to within one at 6-5.
    • The Stars swung back with seven unanswered to hold a commanding 13-5 edge midway through the set.
    • The Evangels were unable to make a comeback in the second half as OCU pulled away with a 25-13 win to close out the match.
MATCH NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian struggled in the attack after the first set. After recording 14 kills on a .238 attack percentage in the opening set, the Evangels mustered just 14 kills on a zero hitting clip over the final two sets to finish with a .091 hitting percentage for the match, MACU's second lowest attack percentage of the season. Oklahoma City ended the match with 45 kills on a .271 attack percentage.
  • Senior outside hitter Hanna Foecker was the lone Evangels attacker that was able to get into an offensive rhythm, registering 13 kills on a .222 clip.
  • Lena Stockhammer recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 22 assists and 10 digs while also registering three kills on a .429 attack rate.
  • Maegan Plunk led the defense with 15 digs, averaging five per set.

  • Mid-America Christian will return home next week for its final two regular season matches. The Evangels will open the week on Friday, Nov. 5 for a 6 p.m. serve against Langston inside the Gaulke Activity Center.
