Volleyball Seeking First Victory at John Brown

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian volleyball team will be looking for its first win ever in Siloam Springs, Ark. on Friday as the Evangels will face off against John Brown in a 7 p.m. match inside Bill George Arena.

    • Mid-America Christian opened the second half of Sooner Athletic Conference play with a dominant win at Science & Arts, recording the second-most kills in a three-set match since joining the conference in 2007 with 49 as a team.
    • In that win over the Drovers, senior libero Maegan Plunk reached a career milestone. With 17 digs in the match, Plunk notched her 2500th career dig at the collegiate level, which includes her four seasons playing for MACU and her freshman season at Randall (Okla.).
    • Several Evangels are also on the verge of reaching career milestones that could potentially be reached on Friday. Plunk is just 10 digs away from becoming the first player in the NAIA era to record 2000 digs at MACU while Kaylie Walker is also just nine digs shy of notching her 1000th career dig. Hanna Foecker is also close to breaking another career milestone as she needs just six kills to notch her 2000th collegiate kill. Foecker has tallied 1345 kills at Mid-America Christian and 649 in her two seasons with St. John's River College.
    • The Evangels head into the match against the Golden Eagles just a half-game out of first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference with Wayland Baptist, Southwestern Assemblies of God, Texas Wesleyan and Oklahoma City all sitting in the top spot with an 8-2 league mark.

    • John Brown is coming off a pair of hard-fought home losses, falling 3-1 to Texas Wesleyan (25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 25-21) on Oct. 1 before falling in a nail-biting five-set grinder to SW Assemblies of God (20-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 15-13) on Oct. 2.
    • The Golden Eagles feature a balanced attack across the front of the net with five players notching more than 100 kills and eight players averaging at least a kill per set, led by sophomore outside hitter Savanna Riney with 210 kills on a 2.66 per set rate.
    • The last time the Evangels and Golden Eagles faced, Mid-America Christian won its first match against JBU since 2012 with a 3-1 victory at the Gaulke Activity Center on Sept. 1. In that win, Hanna Foecker led the way with 20 kills, Lena Stockhammer notched a double-double with 36 assists and 12 digs and Maegan Plunk notched her first of four 30-dig matches on the season.
    • MACU is currently seeking its first win in Siloam Springs against the Eagles. The last time the Evangels played at JBU, they gave the Eagles a strong challenge, but ultimately fell 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-17) on Feb. 22, 2021.
