Terrance Jones Earns NAIA, NCCAA All-American Accolades

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Both the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced their Division I men's basketball All-Americans on Thursday and senior forward Terrance Jones found himself on both lists, as he earned Second Team honors from the NCCAA and Third Team accolades from the NAIA.

Jones is just the fifth Evangels player to earn All-American honors from both the NAIA and the NCCAA since the program joined the NAIA and moved up to the Division I level in the NCCAA in 2007.

The 6-5 forward from Dallas, Texas is joining last season's NCCAA Player of the Year and NAIA First Team honoree Ashford Golden as well as Nick Tate, two-time honoree Semar Farris, Charlie Shorter and Brandon Williams.

Jones led the Evangels offensive efforts during the 2020-21 season, averaging 17.4 points per game on 43.8 percent shooting from the field and 72.8 percent from the free throw line. He was also the Evangels' top rebounder, ripping down 99 board for an 8.3 rpg average while turning 22 assists, 15 steals and nine blocks in just 12 games.

Jones scored 20 or more points in six contests this season, notching a career-high 25 in an 80-77 defeat at Southwestern Christian on Jan. 11. In that game, Jones set a pair of MACU's NAIA era free throw records, as his 20 attempts was a single game record while his 14 conversions tied with Farris for the second-most made in one game.

Before suffering a season-ending injury during the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinal, Jones led the Evangels to a hard-fought 70-66 overtime win over Texas Wesleyan in the Quarterfinal round, scoring a team-high 21 points and pulled down six rebounds to go with two assists in the win.

Jones is earning his second accolade from the NAIA after he was named an All-American Honorable Mention during the 2019-20 season. During last season's campaign, Jones was a pivotal sixth-man off the MACU bench, averaging 13.8 ppg on a blistering 56.7 percent shooting clip, the third-highest in the program's NAIA era run and knocked down 76.6 percent from the charity stripe while also averaging 5.7 rpg.

Jones has been a key member of the MACU men's basketball team that has been selected to back-to-back NAIA National Championship Tournaments. During the 2019-20 season, Jones helped guide the Evangels to a 30-2 overall record, the program's first SAC Regular Season Championship since the 2014-15 season as well as the program's first ever No. 1 seed in the NAIA Tournament before the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He was instrumental in leading the Evangels back to the NAIA Tournament this season as MACU was able to advance to the second round after topping Holy Cross (Ind.) 69-63 in the opening round. The Evangels finished the COVID-19 impacted season with a 12-5 overall record and were finalists in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament after advancing all the way to the championship game.
