Softball Sweeps SAGU In Senior Day Doubleheader

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian softball team got a pair of dominant pitching performances from its two senior pitchers on Senior Day as the Evangels swept Southwestern Assemblies of God 2-1 and 8-0 at Jack Allen Field on Sunday afternoon.

  • Mid-America Christian scored its two runs on seven hits while SAGU recorded its one run on three hits.
  • By getting the win, Katie Long moved to 16-5 on the season. Her 16 wins ties her for the most in a single season during the NAIA era (2008-present), joining current MACU teammate Regan Martin who reached the feat in 2019 and Amber Tinney, who set the record in 2014.
  • Cailey Parsells was one of two MACU batters to record multiple hits in the contest, notching her team-leading third triple of the season in the bottom of the fifth inning. She also recorded her 30th stolen base to become the first Evangel to record 30 or more in one year.
  • It is the fourth time in the NAIA era that Mid-America Christian has reached 30 wins in a season. MACU's first 30-win season game in 2014 when the Evangels finished with a 34-30 overall record. The Evangels notched back-to-back 30-win seasons in 2018 and 2019, going 39-23 during the 2018 campaign and 32-19 in 2019.
  • In-between the first and second games, Mid-America Christian held a Senior Day ceremony for its six graduating members; Camenda Osborn, Shayla Morris, Katie Long, Regan Martin, Kylie Stubbs and Faith Hollingsworth.

PITCHING DECISION TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian recorded its eight runs on 10 hits while the Lions were held to just three hits and committed three errors.
  • Regan Martin turned in her fourth complete game shutout of the season, allowing just three hits over five innings. It was her 14th win of the season, tying her own fourth-best mark set in 2018 when she went 14-9 in the circle. Martin holds three of the top five single season pitching wins marks in program history and has 45 overall in her four-year career.
  • Cailey Parsells notched her fifth three-hit game of the season and her third in the last six games. She knocked both a double and a triple, marking her fourth three-bagger of the year and finishing just a homer away from the cycle. She is just the second Evangels player in the NAIA era to record four triples in a season, matching Somer Grimes mark set in 2008.
  • Eight different Evangels recorded hits in the contest.
  • With the win, MACU improved to 20-8 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. It's just the second time since joining the conference in 2008 that the program has reached 20 or more wins in conference play, sitting only behind the 2019 squad that went 22-14 against its SAC counterparts.

  • Mid-America Christian will be back on the field on Monday as it will host Texas Wesleyan in its final Sooner Athletic Conference home doubleheader of the 2021 season. The first game is slated for a noon first pitch.
