Softball Splits Final Home Doubleheader Against Texas Wesleyan

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian softball team had its nine-game win streak snapped 6-4 in the first game of its doubleheader against Texas Wesleyan, but were able to battle back in game two to close out its final home game with a 10-2 victory on Monday.

GAME NOTES
  • Texas Wesleyan scored its six runs on nine hits with one error while Mid-America Christian scored its four runs on seven hits and committed a season-high five errors.
  • Mid-America Christian had its nine-game win streak snapped, matching its season-high streak from Mar. 11-26.
  • The six runs allowed in the contest was the most MACU had given up in a game since suffering a 6-1 defeat at No. 4 Oklahoma City back on Apr. 6.
  • Adrienne Phillips suffered her first losing decision of the season in relief, throwing four innings and giving up three runs, one earned on four hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Katie Long struggled in her start, giving up three earned runs in three innings of work.
  • Kassie Martin led the MACU bats, going 2-3 with a double, RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. By hitting her 17th double of the season, Martin moved into a tie with Natalie Bissell (2014) for the sixth-most hit in a single season during the NAIA era. Martin is currently just four back of tying Ashley Newman's 2010 program record.

  • Mid-America Christian tallied its 10 runs on 10 hits with three errors while Texas Wesleyan recorded its two runs on six hits with a pair of errors.
  • In getting the win, the Evangels earned their 21st Sooner Athletic Conference victory, putting them just one back of matching the record set by the 2019 squad that went 22-14 in league play.
  • Regan Martin picked up the win in the circle, allowing just two runs, one earned on six hits, no walks and notched a strikeout over six innings of work in a complete game. It was her 15th win of the season, moving her into the fourth-most in a single season and placing her just one back of her own program record, which is tied between teammate Katie Long and Amber Tinney (2014).
  • Freshman catcher Aurelia Holguin put together a big performance from the plate, going 2-3 with not just her first career RBI, but knocked in a team-high three, including the walk-off RBI single in the sixth inning that ended the game on the eight-run rule.
  • Avery Schneringer continued to swing the hottest bat in the Evangels lineup, going 2-3 with a double, two runs, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base. By going 3-6 from the plate between the two doubleheaders, Schneringer boosted her season batting average to .405, which leads the team among all batters with 40 or more at-bats this season.
  • Olivia Roberts also turned in a two-hit game by going 2-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Her RBI was the team-leading 31st of the season.
  • With the Crowley's Ridge doubleheader being canceled shortly after the completion of the game, the Evangels have played their final regular season home games of the 2021 season. MACU has amassed a 19-5 (.791) at Jack Allen Field this year, making it the highest win percentage the Evangels have ever turned in on their home field in a single season with the second-highest single season win total after going 21-11 (.656) at home in 2018.

  • Mid-America Christian will return to action on May 4 for its final regular season doubleheader of the 2021 campaign. The Evangels will wrap up Sooner Athletic Conference play at Southwestern Christian with the opening game getting off to a 2 p.m. first pitch.
