Women’s Soccer Rebounds with 4-0 Victory Over Sterling

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian women's soccer team bounced back from a pair of tough losses with a dominant performance both offensively and defensively as the Evangels pulled out a 4-0 victory over Sterling (Kan.) on Tuesday night at the Mike & Helen Dill Soccer Field.

SCORING SUMMARY MATCH SUMMARY
  • First Half
    • Mid-America Christian had a great chance at a score in the first two minutes when Kyleigh Rushing's first shot pinged off the crossbar, but the Evangels would find the go-ahead goal when Abigail McCain scored the game-winner in the 8th minute. On the play, Daniela Paez's corner kick deflected off the hand of the outstretched keeper, but junior forward Kadin Stinson made a brilliant pass from the left post into the air for McCain's winner from four yards out.
    • In the 20th minute, Rushing was able to find the scoring column when she was tripped up in the box trying to break down the right side, warranting a foul and a penalty kick. On the attempt, Rushing slipped a shot toward the lower right post past the diving keeper to extend the MACU lead to 2-nil.
    • With 9:27 remaining, the Evangels were able to take advantage of another Paez corner from the right side. The Warriors were initially able to get a foot on the ball in the air in the middle of the box, but it caromed toward Alissa Taylor camping the left post, as she bodied the ball down and just barely beat the defense and keeper to put the four-yard shot through to the right side to make it a 3-0 advantage heading into the halftime break.
  • Second Half
    • Mid-America Christian's lone score in the second half came in the 84th minute when Johanna Behrens was able to break down the left side off the dribble and from the left end line was able to find Rani Mueller near the right post, as her 8-yard shot bounced off the hand of the leaping keeper and just barely crossed the goal line before being cleared to wrap up the MACU scoring at 4-nil.
