Volleyball Sweeps Oklahoma Wesleyan to Close Out Home Stand

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian volleyball wrapped up its home stand with an impressive three-set sweep over a red-hot Oklahoma Wesleyan team at the Gaulke Activity Center on Saturday afternoon.

    • Set One
      • Oklahoma Wesleyan scored three of the first five points before Mid-America Christian rattled off four unanswered behind a Hanna Foecker kill and service ace to go with an Allison Porter kill.
      • The Eagles went on an 8-3 run to retake an 11-9 lead before MACU swung back with four straight, getting three kills from Foecker to go with a Vanessa Moreira service ace, pushing the MACU advantage back to two at the midway point.
      • OKWU went on a big 7-1 run take its largest lead of the match at 18-14, forcing MACU head coach Holly McKamie to call a timeout.
      • The Eagles maintained a three-to-four-point cushion over the next eight rallies before MACU went on a powerful run to end the set. A Foecker kill ignited a 7-1 surge as Foecker also got back-to-back kills to bring it to set point before teaming up with Porter on a block to secure the 25-23 win.
    • Set Two
      • The second set started out close with MACU holding a one-point edge through the first 11 rallies before a Porter kill allowed MACU to go on a six-point streak, capping it on a Foecker ace to extend the lead out to 12-5.
      • The Eagles managed to tally six of the next eight points to cut their deficit to three before the Evangels notched three straight off of two Moreira kills along with a Foecker kill to put it back out to a 17-11 advantage.
      • Mid-America Christian continued to pull away down the stretch, scoring eight of the final 10 points of the set to cruise to a 25-14 victory.
    • Set Three
      • While the set remained relatively close early on, MACU utilized a 6-1 run to extend its lead to 11-4 midway through, ending it on back-to-back kills from freshman outside hitter Madalyn Shurley.
      • Oklahoma Wesleyan racked up four straight behind two kills from Makaila Keith and Maddy McKinney to go along with back-to-back service aces from Nicole Bott, bringing it back to within three at 11-8.
      • The Evangels scored five of the next seven to push their lead out to 16-10, getting a Foecker kill and Porter block on consecutive points before OKWU stormed back with a 7-2 streak to pull it back to within one.
      • While the two teams traded the next four rallies, Mid-America Christian put the match away with a 5-2 run, ending it on Foecker's left side slam up the middle during a long rally to end in a 25-21 decision.
  • MATCH NOTES
    • Mid-America Christian finished with its fourth-highest hitting percentage of the season, tallying 40 kills on a .305 clip while holding Oklahoma Wesleyan to 33 kills on a .147 attack rate.
    • For the fourth time this season, the Evangels finished with 10 or more blocks, getting eight assisted blocks to go with two solo blocks.
    • The Evangels snapped Oklahoma Wesleyan's four-match winning streak heading into the match.
    • Hanna Foecker led the MACU attack with 15 kills on a .294 attack percentage, eight of those kills coming the decisive 25-23 set one win. Foecker also finished with a season-high five service aces.
    • Allison Porter was defensively dominant at the net, tying a career-high nine blocks to average a blistering three per set. Porter also turned in five kills on a .400 attack percentage.
    • Lena Stockhammer also finished with 36 assists and a team-high eight digs, averaging 12 assists per set.
    • The Evangels surpassed the 2012 team for the best win percentage through 20 matches in the NAIA era, improving to 14-6 (.700) compared to the 13-7 (.650) start the 2012 team finished with.

  • Mid-America Christian will return to the road and Sooner Athletic Conference play next weekend as the Evangels will head to McPherson, Kan. on Friday, Oct. 1 for a 7 p.m. match against Central Christian.
