Softball Sweeps Southwestern Christian to Open Sooner Athletic Conference Play

BETHANY, Okla. – After having an extended break due to the inclement weather that rolled through the Southwest last week, the Mid-America Christian softball team had a stellar return to the field as the Evangels opened Sooner Athletic Conference play with a 12-1, 8-3 doubleheader sweep over Southwestern Christian on Tuesday afternoon.

PITCHING DECISION SCORING SUMMARY TOP PERFORMERS GAME SUMMARY
  • The Evangels were able to generate an early run in the top of the first. After Cailey Parsells was hit by a pitch and stole both second and third, Kassie Martin slapped a single to make it a 1-0 MACU lead.
  • MACU picked up one more run in the second when Brookelyn Gilmore smacked a one-out single to score Rachel Humburg to make it a 2-0 Evangels advantage.
  • The Eagles scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the third by executing a double steal. Camenda Osborn threw out Alys Parr trying to nab second, but Malaiyah Patton scored from third to cut the MACU lead in half at 2-1.
  • Mid-America Christian started pulling away with a three-run fourth. Adyson Bradley drove in Osborn on an RBI groundout error while Parsells smacked an RBI triple and Mikaylee Allen followed with an RBI single, pushing the lead out to 5-1.
  • The Evangels blew the game wide open in the fifth inning, pushing across seven runs in the frame. Bradley, Gilmore, Parsells, Allen, and Osborn all notched RBI hits while Olivia Roberts slapped a 2-RBI single to ultimately seal a 12-1 win for the Evangels.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian tied a season-high 12 runs on a season-best 13 hits and committed no errors while Southwestern Christian pushed across its one run on one hit and made four errors.
  • Eight different Evangels recorded hits in the contest, led by Mikaylee Allen going 3-for-4 with an RBI, a run and a pair of steals.
  • Olivia Roberts and Brookelyn Gilmore each finished with a team-high two RBIs as Roberts slashed 1-for-3 with a walk while Gilmore batted 2-for-3.
  • Rachel Eggleston picked up the win to improve to 3-2 on the season after throwing four stellar innings, giving up just one earned run on one hit with one walk and three strikeouts.

  • The Evangels once again surged out in-front first with a pair of runs in the second. After a one out double by Janessa Larman and trotted down to third on a passed ball, Camenda Osborn drove her home with a single to make it a 1-0 MACU lead. Three batters later, Osborn came around to score on an RBI single by Megan Widener.
  • MACU pushed it out to 3-0 in the third on a Mikaylee Allen single, plating Cailey Parsells after she was hit by a pitch, stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball.
  • The Eagles closed it to one on back-to-back scoring plays in the bottom the third as two came across on a Naveah Daniel RBI single and a Madison Jones RBI fielder's choice groundout.
  • The Evangels got the runs back immediately in the top of the fourth as Parsells drove in two on a double to make it a 5-2 game.
  • MACU added another insurance run in the fifth after Allen drew a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a flyball, Olivia Roberts drove her in with an RBI groundout to third.
  • The Eagles trimmed the deficit in half in the bottom of the fifth on Meagan Vess RBI fielder's choice groundout to bring the score to 6-3.
  • MACU scratched across two more insurance runs in the sixth. The first run came on twin sisters driving each other in as Karlee Danielson drove in Kenzee Danielson on an RBI single before Allen drove in Parsells to cap the scoring at 8-3.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian notched its eight runs on 13 hits while the Eagles scored three runs on eight hits and committed two miscues.
  • With the win, Mid-America Christian has extended its win streak to 14 games against its crosstown rival with the last loss coming on Mar. 28, 2017.
  • The top of the order was tough all game for the Evangels, as Cailey Parsells finished 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs to go with three stolen bases for five on the day. In the two-hole, Mikaylee Allen had a 1-of-2 day with two RBIs, a run, a walk and a stolen base.
  • Freshman designated player had a big day from the plate, swatting 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run while another freshman in the order in second baseman Megan Widener also batted 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run.
  • Junior pitcher Adrienne Phillips was stellar in relief, allowing just one earned run on four hits with no walks and a strikeout to improve to 2-0 in the circle this season.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will have a short turnaround as the Evangels will be back home on Wednesday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Dallas Christian.
