Softball Sweeps Dallas Christian in First Ever Meeting

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian softball team took care of business in its return home as the Evangels swept Dallas Christian 12-4 and 8-0 in the two programs' first ever meeting at Allen Field on Wednesday afternoon.

TOP PERFORMERS GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian got the scoring going early in the first. After a leadoff triple to right-center by Cailey Parsells, Mikaylee Allen drove her in on a single that glanced off the glove of the diving third basemen and then managed to nab steals of second and third to put her at first with one out. Olivia Roberts than drove her in on a soft fly single to left to make it a 2-0 game.
  • The Crusaders drew it back even in the top of the second. After MACU starter Rachel Eggleston gave up a single and a double to start the frame, DCC's Maya Williamson came across to score on a wild pitch before Aniyah Dixon slapped an RBI single to right to set the score to 2-2.
  • MACU regained the lead in the bottom half of the second on some great two-out hitting. After the first two batters were retired, Brookelyn Gilmore drew a walk and Parsells poked a single to right before Allen smashed a triple down the left field line to plate both Gilmore and Parsells. Kassie Martin followed with an RBI single to left to stretch the edge to 5-2.
  • The Evangels continued to add to the advantage in the third. Following back-to-back singles by Janessa Larman and Camenda Osborn, MACU's doubles leader Rachel Humburg lined a two-bagger to the wall in left field to score both runners, making it a 7-2 lead.
  • Roberts opened the scoring in a three-run fourth with an RBI double to left-center field before Aurelia Holguin slapped an RBI groundout to first and Hannah Robbins put an RBI single into left, bringing the score to 10-2.
  • The Crusaders were able to keep from being eight-run ruled in the top of the fifth with a two-run frame. Dixon notched her second RBI of the game with a double to left before Leighianne Dale pushed Dixon across on a SAC fly to make it a 10-4 score.
  • The Evangels scratched one across in the fifth on an RBI single by Allene Dennis to score Kenzee Danielson after her one-out double to left. MACU ended it in the sixth as Kyla Thompson hit a SAC fly to center to score Brooklyn Wilson as the catcher was called for blocking the plate end the game with a 12-4 final.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its 12 runs on 13 hits and committed one error while Dallas Christian scored its four runs on six hits and made three errors.
  • The Evangels recorded its third straight game with 13 hits.
  • Mikaylee Allen was one of three Evangels to notch multiple RBIs, leading the way by going 2-for-3 with triple, three RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Olivia Roberts pitched in two RBIs after going 2-for-3 with a double and Rachel Humburg drove in two after a 1-for-3 day and a double.
  • Cailey Parsells joined Allen as the team's multi-run scorers after slashing 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs.
  • Rachel Eggleston improved to 4-2 on the season, giving up four runs, three earned on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Adrienne Phillips pitched two solid innings of relief, allowing just one hit to go with a strikeout.

PITCHING DECISION SCORING SUMMARY TOP PERFORMERS GAME SUMMARY
  • Following two-and-a-half scoreless frames, Mid-America Christian was able to open up the scoring in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Mikaylee Allen drove in Avery Schneringer with a double to left before Kassie Martin did the same for Allen by also driving a two-bagger to left to make it a 2-0 game.
  • The Evangels blew the game wide open with a five-run fourth. After two of the first three batters reached, Schneringer scorched a screeching liner off the DCC first baseman's leg, allowing both Camenda Osborn and Rachel Humburg to score, bringing the score to 4-0.
  • Two batters later, Cailey Parsells knocked in a pair with a two-RBI single to right, plating Schneringer and Megan Widener before Martin pushed one more across with a SAC fly that plated Parsells, setting it to a 7-0 MACU advantage.
  • The Evangels ended the game quickly in the bottom of the fifth. After Karlee Danielson drew a walk and advanced two bases on a passed ball and wild pitch before Aurelia Holguin drew a walk, Humburg drove in the final run with a SAC fly to right to bring in Danielson and wrap-up the 8-0 final.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian notched its eight runs on nine hits while the Crusaders could only muster one hit and made two miscues.
  • Sophomore starter Avery Schneringer was sensational in the circle, tossing the Evangels' first complete-game shutout victory of the season, allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out a career-best six batters.
  • Schneringer also helped lead the MACU bats as one of three players to finish with two RBIs. Schneringer went 1-for-1 with a double, two runs and a walk while Cailey Parsells went 1-for-3 with a run scored and Kassie Martin batted 1-for-2 with a double.
  • Mikaylee Allen notched her second and third extra-base hits of the day with a double and triple to go with an RBI, a run, a walk and a stolen base.
  • Following the win, Mid-America Christian has now scored 40 runs in the last four games.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will now prepare to compete at the Red Dirt Softball Classic being hosted at the USA Softball Hall of Fame on Friday and Saturday. The Evangels will open the tournament by facing their second-ranked NAIA Top 10 opponent of the season in No. 7 Ottawa (Kan.) at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Mar. 4.
