TOP PERFORMERS GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its 12 runs on 10 hits and committed a pair of errors while Southwestern Christian pushed across 10 runs on 10 hits and also made two defensive miscues.
  • Andrew Enwiya had an incredible day from the plate, slashing 3-for-5 with a pair of homers and six RBIs, which included hitting the go-ahead grand slam in the top of the ninth to break an 8-all tie.
  • Enwiya's pair of jacks brought his season total to a team-leading nine while breaking 20-plus RBIs with 22 thus far on the season.
  • Enwiya helped get the scoring going for the Evangels in the top of the first. After Julian Martinez drew a walk, the senior left fielder bashed a no-doubter over the left field fence to make it a 2-0 game.
  • After SCU scratched one across in the bottom of the first, the Evangels extended their lead in the top of the third as Devon Villanueva dropped a popup fielder's choice into shallow right to score Isaiah Leon before Julian Martinez crossed home plate on a wild pitch, bringing the score to 4-1.
  • The Eagles cut the MACU lead in half on a Jabes Turner RBI single, but Mid-America Christian continued to build back at the advantage as Andres Gonzalez drew a bases load walk to score Enwiya before German Sepulveda hit a high chopper that bounced over the third baseman into left, plating Caden Harris and Devon Villanueva to make it a 7-2 game.
  • SCU got a run back on a Kyler Ayres SAC fly to left in the bottom of the inning, but MACU countered with a run of its own in the top of the sixth as Villanueva bashed a hard-hit, two-out double to left to score Payton Walk from first, setting the score to 8-3.
  • Southwestern Christian stormed back over the next two innings as the Eagles pushed across a pair of unearned runs in the sixth and then tallied three in the eighth as a Jarod Beres two-RBI single brought it to within one before Mavarez came around to score after a throwing error to draw the game even at 8-8.
  • With both teams notching a scoreless eighth, the Evangels started the ninth inning by taking advantage of some suspect Eagles pitching. After Walk was hit by a pitch and Ryan Reed drew a walk to put runners at first and second, Grant Roberts laid down a well-executed SAC bunt down the first base line to put runners at second and third with only one out. Martinez managed to draw a four-pitch walk to load the bases before Enwiya came through with the game-winning grand slam.
  • Despite not getting the win, MACU starter Zane Robeaux tossed five solid innings, allowing just five runs, three earned on five hits, six walks and eight strikeouts.
  • MACU closer Kelton Lachelt moved to 5-0 on the mound after throwing the final 2.2 innings, giving up just one unearned run on three hits with no walks and a pair of strikeouts.
  • It was the first time the Evangels scored double-digit runs since picking up a 14-4 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Mar. 5.
  • The Evangels have won the last two games at Dolese Park after coming away with a 17-6 win in the second game of a doubleheader back on Apr. 29, 2021.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will host the Eagles for a doubleheader at the MACU Baseball Field on Saturday. The opening game of the twin billing is slated for a noon first pitch.
