Softball Splits One-Run Games at Southwestern Assemblies of God

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – The Mid-America Christian softball team split a pair of one-run games at Southwestern Assemblies of God as the Evangels were shutout 1-0 in game one before bouncing back with a 2-1 victory in the nightcap at Southwestern Assemblies of God on Friday.

TOP PERFORMERS GAME NOTES
  • Southwestern Assemblies of God scored its lone run on five hits while the Evangels could only muster two hits.
  • The Lady Lions pushed across the only run in the pitcher's duel in the bottom of the first on an Ashlyn Teran double to left-center after Makyla Kelly led off the inning with an infield single and advanced to second on a SAC bunt.
  • Mid-America Christian's best chance at tying it up came in the fifth when Janessa Larman hit a leadoff single to left and pinch-runner Kenzee Danielson reached second on a SAC bunt, but SAGU starter Autumn Graham struck out back-to-back batters to end the MACU threat.
  • Despite suffering the loss, MACU starter Rachel Eggleston pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
  • Olivia Roberts and Janessa Larman notched the lone MACU hits in the contest.

  • Mid-America Christian scored its two runs on six hits and Southwestern Christian scored its only run on seven hits to go with one error.
  • Mikaylee Allen snapped MACU's 20-inning scoreless streak in the top of the fifth. After Aurelia Holguin reached on an infield single to second, Allen smashed a triple to left-center to make it a 1-0 game.
  • The Evangels added an essential insurance run after Megan Widener and Cailey Parsells each drew walks to load the bases as Kassie Martin also reached on a walk to bring the score to 2-0.
  • Southwestern Assemblies of God chipped into the MACU lead in the bottom of the sixth by recording three straight singles after Avery Schneringer tallied the first two outs, but with runners at first and second, Schneringer induced a groundout to short to get out of the jam.
  • The Lady Lions threatened again in the bottom of the seventh by putting runners at first and second with one out, but Rachel Eggleston came in in relief and notched her first career save by getting back-to-back batters to pop out to end the game.
  • By getting the win, the Evangels snapped a five-game losing streak as well as a seven-game Sooner Athletic Conference streak.
  • Avery Schneringer picked up the win in the circle, giving up only one earned run on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
  • Aurelia Holguin led the MACU bats, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored while Mikaylee Allen tallied her third triple of the season and improved upon her team-leading 20th RBI.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will wrap up its four-game Texas road trip with a Saturday doubleheader at Texas Wesleyan. The opening game is slated for a 2 p.m. start at Sycamore Park in Fort Worth, Texas.
