Schneringer Throws First Career Shutout, Softball Splits at Texas Wesleyan

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Mid-America Christian softball team bounced back from a 13-3 defeat in the opening game in a big way as Avery Schneringer tossed her first career complete-game shutout to give the Evangels a 3-0 victory in game two against Texas Wesleyan at Sycamore Park on Saturday.

TOP PERFORMERS GAME NOTES
  • Texas Wesleyan scored its 13 runs on 12 hits with an error while the Evangels scored their three runs on three hits with three errors.
  • Cailey Parsells ripped her first career home run in the top of the third winning with a no-doubt shot to right-center to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Aurelia Holguin also smashed her first career home run with a rocket down the left field line in the top of the fifth.
  • The Evangels struggled to slow down the red-hot Rams bats that hit four home runs in the contest, two coming off the bat of the TWU leadoff hitter Kylie Summers.
  • Rachel Eggleston suffered the loss in the circle, dropping to 7-6 on the season after giving up seven runs, six earned on eight hits with no walks or strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work.

PITCHING DECISION SCORING SUMMARY TOP PERFORMERS GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian pushed across its three runs on four hits and Texas Wesleyan finished with only three hits in the contest.
  • Coming off a strong pitching performance on Friday, the momentum carried over to Saturday for sophomore starter Avery Schneringer, who registered her first career complete-game shutout by allowing only three hits and two walks to go with a pair of strikeouts in the victory.
  • Aurelia Holguin continued to swing a hot bat in the second game as her go-ahead two RBI single up the middle in the third inning proved to be the game-winning hit for the Evangels. Holguin finished the contest 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
  • Getting her first career start, Emylee Campbell also drove in her second RBI of the season on a single up the middle in the third inning to make it a 3-0 game.
  • Texas Wesleyan put together a major threat in the bottom of the fourth as the first two batters reached on a walk and a single followed by a sacrifice bunt to put a pair of runners in scoring position with just one out. However, Schneringer navigated out to the jam by getting Izzy Valenzuela to pop out to first before getting Sandra Lopez to strike out to get out of the jam.
  • For the third straight time, the Rams and Evangels have split their doubleheaders and MACU overall ended their four-game road trip to Texas with a 2-2 record after splitting at Southwestern Assemblies of God on Friday.
UP NEXT
  • After spending the last eight games on the road, Mid-America Christian will be looking forward to its return home on Tuesday as the Evangels will host Langston for a doubleheader at Allen Field. The opening pitch for the twin-bill is slated for 2 p.m.
