Softball Sweeps Texas Wesleyan 8-0, 5-1 on Senior Day

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian softball team got a pair of dominant pitching performances from Rachel Eggleston and Avery Schneringer while seniors Kassie Martin and Lauren Waddell produced big time from the plate as the Evangels cruised to an 8-0, 5-1 doubleheader sweep over Texas Wesleyan on Senior Day at Allen Field on Saturday.

PITCHING DECISION SCORING SUMMARY TOP PERFORMERS GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its eight runs on nine hits while Texas Wesleyan finished with two hits and an error.
  • The victory marked the Evangels' 13th win of the season via the eight-run rule.
  • Both teams struggled to generate any offense until the Evangels pushed across six runs in the bottom of the fourth. During MACU's six-run fourth inning, six different Evangels recorded RBI hits.
  • Getting her first start of the season, senior first baseman Lauren Waddell led the MACU bats by swinging 2-for-3 with a double and a team-high three RBIs, including a walk-off two RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to wrap-up the 8-0 final.
  • Senior left fielder Kassie Martin also notched two hits in the contest, slashing 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
  • Janessa Larman was one of three MACU batters to notch a pair of hits, finishing 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
  • Sophomore pitcher Avery Schneringer tossed her team-leading third complete-game shutout of the season, allowing just two hits and a walk to go with a strikeout in five innings of work. The win propelled Schneringer to a 12-9 record in the circle for the season.
  • After the completion of the contest, Mid-America Christian held a ceremony to honor the five graduating seniors from the squad. Those five graduating seniors were Kassie Martin, Lauren Waddell, Brookelyn Gilmore, Chloe Hodge and Mikala Muskrat.

  • Mid-America Christian pushed across its five runs on seven hits and committed a pair of errors while the Lady Rams tallied its lone run on four hits and also notched a pair of defensive miscues.
  • Redshirt freshman pitcher Rachel Eggleston tossed her fourth straight complete win and picked up her sixth win in the last seven starts after allowing just one unearned run on four hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.
  • By getting her 14th win in the circle, Eggleston tied Regan Martin for the fifth-most single-season wins for a pitcher in the NAIA Era.
  • Kassie Martin came up huge in her final regular season home game at Allen Field, batting 1-for-3 with career-best four RBIs, three of which coming off a three-run homer in the bottom of the first.
  • Cailey Parsells continued to be a tough out on the basepaths, going 1-for-2 with a walk, a team-leading two runs and a pair of stolen bases, bringing her already season record total to 47 on the year.
  • Freshman second baseman Kenzee Danielson recorded the first multi-hit game of her career by swatting 2-for-3 with a run scored.
  • By getting the doubleheader sweep, Mid-America Christian won the season series against Texas Wesleyan. After the Evangels dropped a 13-3 decision to the Lady Rams in Fort Worth on Mar. 26, MACU bounced back with a 3-0 victory in the second game of the doubleheader.
  • The Evangels outscored TWU 16-1 over the final three games of the series.
  • The doubleheader sweep also propelled the Evangels into fourth in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings, wrapping up league play with a 17-15 record. After dropping a doubleheader at No. 2 Oklahoma City on Apr. 5, the Evangels recovered from a 7-13 conference mark by going 10-2 over the final 12 SAC contests.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will wrap-up the regular season on Tuesday, Apr. 26 as the Evangels will travel to Dallas for a non-conference doubleheader against Dallas Christian. The opening game is slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
