Softball Drops Doubleheader at No. 2 Oklahoma City 8-0, 4-3

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian softball team gave No. 2 Oklahoma City a tough battle in the second game of the doubleheader at Ann Lacy Stadium on Tuesday night, but for the second time in four days, the Evangels lost in walk-off fashion 4-3 after suffering an 8-0 defeat in game one.

  • Aurelia Holguin was the lone Evangels batter to reach base multiple times, going 1-for-1 with an infield single and reached on a walk.
  • Megan Widener recorded the other MACU hit with a double down the left field line to put runners at second and third with two outs in the top of the third.
  • Rachel Eggleston suffered the loss, falling to 8-8 in the circle this season after allowing seven runs, four earned on 11 hits, no walks and three strikeouts over 4.1 innings of work.

TOP PERFORMERS GAME NOTES
  • Oklahoma City pushed across its four runs on seven hits with one error while the Evangels scored their three runs on four hits and also made one defensive miscue.
  • The Evangels jumped out in-front in the top of the first when Megan Widener reached on a hit-by-pitch, advanced to third on a Kassie Martin single to right. After Martin stole second, Emylee Campbell drove in two after getting a ground ball through the left side for a base hit, plating both Widner and Martin to make it a 2-0 game.
  • The Stars got a run back in the bottom of the first on a Lexi Duff RBI single and then in the third on a Rally Radacy SAC fly to right to tie the game up at 2-2.
  • Janessa Larman gave the lead right back to the Evangels in the top of the fourth by smashing a leadoff solo home run to left, her fourth of the season.
  • Oklahoma City scored the game-tying run in the bottom of the fifth on a Tiffany Paul RBI single to right-center before the Stars walked it off in the bottom of the seventh on a bases-loaded passed ball that scored Nicole Robinson from third.
  • Emylee Campbell led the MACU bats by going 1-for-2 with two RBIs while Janessa Larman finished 1-for-3 with that solo home run in the fourth.
  • Avery Schneringer suffered a complete-game defeat, falling to 8-8 in the circle after throwing 6.2 innings and allowing four runs, three earned on seven hits, three walks and struck out two.
  • Mid-America Christian narrowly missed snapping Oklahoma City's 42-game win streak against the Evangels.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will look to bounce back on Thursday as the Evangels will hit the road for a doubleheader at Langston. The opening pitch is slated for 2 p.m. at T.G. Green Softball Field.
