Baseball Completes Four-Game Sweep of Bacone Behind Dominant Pitching

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian baseball team closed out its dominant four-game sweep of Bacone on Saturday at the MACU Baseball Field as the Evangels got a pair of dominant pitching performances from Frensly Leito and Luuk Ter Beek to come away with 11-1 and 12-0 wins in the doubleheader finale.

PITCHING DECISION SCORING SUMMARY TOP PERFORMERS GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian finished with 11 runs on eight hits while Bacone scored its lone run on three hits and committed a pair of errors.
  • Senior starter Frensly Leito got back to his dominant self, recording his sixth double-digit strikeout performance of the season after allowing just one earned run on three hits with two walks and 12 strikeouts over five innings of work. Leito struck out the first six batters he faced in the contest.
  • By getting the victory, Leito improved to 6-1 on the mound this season, tying Thomas Peabody and Madison Spencer for the third-most wins for a pitcher in a season during the NAIA Era (2008-present). Leito currently sits only behind Keisy Portorreal (9, 2018) and teammate Kelton Lachelt (7, 2022) in the MACU record book.
  • The MACU bats were balanced across the board with seven different players recording a hit.
  • The Evangels were once again patient from the plate as 11 batters reached behind six walks and five batters were hit by a pitch.
  • German Sepulveda led the team with a pair of RBIs, slashing 1-for-2 with a run scored and a hit-by-pitch.
  • Isaiah Leon led MACU on the base path with three runs after going 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
  • Starting center fielder Payton Walk continued to stay hot from the plate by going 1-for-1 with an RBI single, a run scored and a pair of walks to go with a stolen base.
  • Andres Gonzalez was the lone batter between both teams to record an extra-base hit with a double after going 1-for-2 with an RBI, two runs scored and a walk.

PITCHING DECISION SCORING SUMMARY TOP PERFORMERS GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian pushed across its 12 runs on nine hits while the Warriors could only muster two hits and made one miscue.
  • Luuk Ter Beek recorded his first career complete-game shutout for the Evangels, allowing only two hits and two walks while tying a season-high six strikeouts.
  • In just his second career start, sophomore catcher Gabriel Aponte put together an outstanding day from the plate, leading the bats by going 2-for-2 with four RBIs with a walk drawn.
  • Yan Ely Adames also finished with a stellar day from the plate, batting 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a pair of runs to go with a stolen bag.
  • Payton Walk wrapped up his astounding week from the dish with three runs scored after going 1-for-1 with an RBI and a pair of walks. During the five-game slate, Walk batted 8-for-12 (.667) with three doubles, a homer, 10 RBIs, 12 runs scored, six walks and a stolen base.
  • Similarly to the first game, Andrew Enwiya was the only MACU batter to record an extra-base hit with a double, finishing 1-for-1 with an RBI and two runs scored to go with a walk. The two-bagger was his team-leading ninth of the season.
  • By getting the win, Mid-America Christian wrapped up their season series with Bacone with a 6-0 record, extending their win streak to 15 games over the Warriors.
  • The Evangels won every game in the four-game slate this weekend by 10 or more runs.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will be back on the road on Tuesday, Apr. 12 as the Evangels will head uptown to Bethany, Okla. for a non-conference matchup against Southern Nazarene. The first pitch is slated for 2 p.m. at Feland Field.
