GREENVILLE, S.C. – The National Christian College Athletic Association announced its 10-team field for the 2022 NCCAA World Series on Saturday as the Mid-America Christian baseball will be competing in its first national championship event in nearly two decades as the Evangels were selected to the championship field.
MACU was selected to compete as the No. 4 seed and will be competing in the five-day event being played at the Kansas City Royals Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City, Mo. from May 20-24.
Mid-America Christian earned an at-large berth after finishing Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament play with 31-20 overall record, tallying the program's most wins since the 2005 season (31-25).
It is the first time the Evangels will be playing in the NCCAA Baseball World Series since it became one unified division. MACU won the NCCAA Division II Invitational in 2004.
MACU is led a strong core of hitters and pitchers as MACU features six NCCAA All-Central Region honorees, including junior outfielder Andrew Enwiya, senior catcher and outfielder Yan Ely Adames, senior pitcher Frensly Leito, freshman outfielder Isaiah Leon and sophomore pitchers Kelton Lachelt and Zane Robeaux.
Mid-America Christian will open NCCAA World Series play on Friday, May 20 as the Evangels will take on No. 5 seed Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) at 3 p.m. on the Motley Field. If the Evangels are victorious, they'd play either top-seed Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) or the winner of the No. 8 Carolina (N.C.)/No. 9 College of Ozarks (Mo.) contest at 3 p.m. on Saturday. If MACU drops its opening game, it would play the loser of the No. 8/No. 9 matchup at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
