OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian women's soccer team gave No. 16 Columbia all it could handle, including taking a scoreless tie into the second half, but the Evangels struggled to contain the Cougars in the second half as MACU fell 2-0 on Monday afternoon at the Dill Soccer Field.

MATCH SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian stopped an early scoring opportunity when Macie Lucas intercepted an errant MACU pass and attacked on the right side of the box, but Evangels' goalkeeper Makayla Farquharson was able to slide out and block the shot at the point of attack to keep it scoreless.
  • The Eagles had another dangerous opportunity thwarted in the 41st minute when Isabella Govero was able to put a strong shot on-goal from 16-yards out on the left side, but Farquharson made a strong leaping save toward the top left corner to keep it out.
  • It appeared the Cougars were going to take a 1-0 lead into the half when Jewel Morelan rifled a shot from the right side over the head of Farquharson and into the top left corner, however the ball had not crossed the goal line before time expired, keeping it to a 0-0 game at the half.
  • Columbia took advantage of a strong break in the 51st minute as Juliana Wulff relayed a pass to Macie Lucas toward the right post. Lucas was able to find Madeleine Shylanski breaking in as she powered a five-yard shot through Farquharson trying to grab the ball at the point of attack into the right side, making it a 1-nil game.
  • In the 89th minute, Farquharson made a stellar leaping save on a shot from the right side by Isabella Govero, but the Cougars were able to score just moments later when Columbia collected the rebound and Kaitlyn Sheehan found Govero again on the right side, blasting a seven-yard shot just out of the reach of Farquharson to the left side of the net, ending MACU's chances of forcing a draw with the 2-0 final.
MATCH NOTES
  • Columbia controlled the possession for most of the game, outshooting Mid-America Christian by a 22-7 margin and an 11-4 edge in shots on-goal.
  • Junior goalkeeper Makayla Farquharson put together one of her best performances of the year, tallying nine saves on a season-high .818 save percentage while conceding just a pair of goals.
  • MACU struggled to find quality opportunities on-net as Daniela Paez was the lone Evangel to attempt more than one shot with a pair of opportunities with just one landing on-goal.
  • It was the first time the Evangels and Cougars had ever faced each other in the two team's respective histories.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will face another tough challenge on Thursday night as the Evangels will hit the road to face their second NCAA Division I opponent of the season in Oral Roberts. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at the Case Soccer Complex in Tulsa, Okla.
