GAME NOTES
- Mid-America Christian pushed across its 20 runs on 18 hits and committed two errors while Southwest scored its 10 runs on 14 hits and three errors.
- The scoring output for the Evangels marked the sixth-most runs MACU had scored in a single-game since joining the NAIA in 2008.
- Impressively, the Evangels recorded RBIs on all 20 of their runs scored.
- Despite not making an appearance until the sixth inning, backup left fielder Makael Shaw led the batting efforts by going 3-for-3 with a game-high four RBIs to go with a run scored.
- Noel McGarry-Doyle and German Sepulveda were also big time run producers for the Evangels as McGarry-Doyle swatted 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and a pair of runs to go with a pair of walks while Sepulveda also went 2-for-3 with three driven in and two runs scored.
- MACU's middle infielding tandem of second baseman Jacob Police and shortstop Carlos Medina wreaked havoc on the basepaths as each player crossed home plate three times. Police batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk to go with a pair of stolen bags while Medina went 1-for-3 with a walk and RBI.
- Making his first career start with MACU, Isaac Baez overcame some early trouble. After giving up three runs in the first inning, Baez faced trouble again in the second, but was able to strike out USW cleanup hitter Andru Sanchez with the bases load and two outs to get out of the jam. That punch-out gave the junior righty the momentum over the next three innings as he sat down nine of the next 10 batters he faced as he finished the contest with five strikeouts over five innings of work.
- The win secured the program's first ever series sweep over the University of the Southwest after never winning a previous meeting in their earlier six tries before Saturday's doubleheader wins.
UP NEXT
- Mid-America Christian will return to Red River Athletic Conference Country next weekend as the Evangels will head to Victoria, Texas for a four-game series against Houston-Victoria from Feb. 3-4. The Evangels will open the series with a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Friday.
