Women’s Soccer Notches Massive Draw at No. 10 John Brown

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – The MACU women's soccer team came out of Alumni Field on Saturday night with perhaps its best defensive outing of the season as the Evangels walked away with a hard-fought 0-0 draw at No. 10 John Brown.

SCORING SUMMARY
  • No scoring
MATCH SUMMARY
  • Both teams struggled to find on-target opportunities through the first 40 minutes as the only shot on-goal came from John Brown (12-2-1, 6-0-1 SAC) when Gifte Pavatt ripped a long-range shot from 30-yards out on the left side, but MACU goalkeeper Rachel Torres came up with the save after the ball initially popped out of her mitts to keep it a scoreless game.
  • Torres came up with two more massive saves in the 42nd minute on Julie Lambert's attempt and again in the 44th on a well-placed header by Lauren Walter, but the stops allowed Mid-America Christian (11-2-2, 4-1-2 SAC) to head into the half with a 0-0 draw with the Golden Eagles.
  • Mid-America Christian's only shot on-goal in the match came right out of the gate when Kadin Stinson got an open long-range look just 20 seconds into the half, as the one-hopper gave JBU goalkeeper Emily Dobbins some trouble, but she managed to scoop up the loose ball before the Evangels could get off an attempt on the rebound to keep it scoreless.
  • The Golden Eagles were able to put four more shots on-goal, three of which came in the final nine minutes with the most dangerous attempts coming from a precise long-distance 35-yard strike by Lambert, but Torres came up with one of her biggest saves of the season by fisting the high shot over the crossbar.
  • JBU's last try on-goal came on another distance shot from the left side by Brooklyn Hendricks, but Torres once again pounced on the bouncer for the save.
  • The Golden Eagles had a very late breakaway in the final 20 seconds when JBU's Rachel Stone broke toward the right side of the box to retrieve an errant cross, but Torres knocked the ball out toward the far corner, keeping the ball in-play as John Brown would not be able to get a potential winning shot off.
MATCH NOTES
  • John Brown maintained a bulk load of the possession, outshooting Mid-America Christian 16-4 with a 7-1 edge in shots on-goal.
  • Senior goalkeeper Rachel Torres put together perhaps the best match of her collegiate career, making a career-best seven saves for her fourth clean sheet of the season.
  • Kadin Stinson led the limited MACU offensive efforts with two of the Evangels' four shots and the lone shot on-goal.
  • With the scoreless draw, Mid-America Christian recorded its first ever draw against John Brown as well as snapped a 12-match losing streak to the Golden Eagles.
  • The draw also allowed the Evangels to stay in the top four of the SAC standings with their 14th conference point, staying two points ahead of Southwestern Assemblies of God and just a point back of Science & Arts for third in league standings.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will have a quick turnaround on Monday as the Evangels will host their Senior Night regular season finale against Oklahoma Panhandle State. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. at the Dill Soccer Field while the Evangels will honor their ten graduating seniors.
