Baseball to Battle Bacone in Midweek Doubleheader

  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian put together a stellar series against No. 22 Oklahoma City, taking two out of three games with a pair of 3-0, 6-5 wins sandwiching a 4-3 defeat at the MACU Baseball Field this past weekend.
    • Even though the OCU pitching held the Evangels to just 4.3 runs per game in the series, MACU got some big time production from its top hitter a season ago in Andrew Enwiya, who earned the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week after slashing .444 (4-for-9) with a pair of homers, six RBIs and two runs scored. Enwiya came up with the clutch hit for the Evangels in the rubber match against OCU, hitting the game-tying two-run homer to left in the bottom of the eighth.
    • Junior starting pitcher Isaac Baez also gained some notoriety by being selected as the NCCAA Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week after he shut down the powerful Stars lineup. Baez tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just six hits and struck out seven batters while not issuing a single walk.
    • While the Evangels spent a large portion of their early season on the road, MACU has been nearly unstoppable on its home field this season, posting an 11-3 record at the MACU Baseball Field this season.

  • Team Notes:
    • Bacone has gotten off to a rough start to the season as the Warriors are still looking for their first win through 13 games. However, BC narrowly missed getting their first win at Southern Nazarene (Okla.) on Mar. 14. In the first game of their doubleheader, the Warriors held a 10-8 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, but the Crimson Storm scored a pair to tie it up before scoring the walk-off in the bottom of the seventh for an 11-10 win.
    • The Warriors enter the Tuesday twin bill as the second-worst hitting team in the NAIA, slashing just .177 (198th) while also boasting the second-worst on-base percentage (.260) and second-worst slugging percentage (.217). Pitching has also been problematic for the Warriors as BC ranks third to last in the NAIA in team ERA (16.48) while also ranking fifth-to-last in the nation in fielding percentage (.879).
    • The lone bright spot in the Bacone batting order this season has been sophomore infielder Marqece Bickham, who is posting a .423 batting average with a .444 on-base percentage and a .577 slugging rate. However, no other Warrior is hitting north of .300 with Coltyn Robinson posting the second-best batting average at .286. The Warriors top pitcher this season has been freshman Dakota Briggs, who has seen action in seven games and is holding a 11.84 ERA.
    • Even though MACU holds just a 24-16 edge in the all-time series, the Evangels have downright dominated the Warriors lately as MACU is currently on a 12-game win streak. The last time the two teams played in a countable game, the Evangels cruised to a 17-6 win on Apr. 8 at the MACU Baseball Field, which included holding a 17-1 lead at the end of the fourth inning. In that victory, Andrew Enwiya batted 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and scored three runs while Payton Walk added four RBIs on a grand slam.
