Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Southwestern Christian on Adames’ Walk-Off Homer

OKLAHOMA CITY – With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Yan Ely Adames smashed a flyball over the right field fence for a walk-off two-run homer to lead the MACU baseball team to a 4-3 victory in game one of a doubleheader to take the series against Southwestern Christian before falling in game two 6-4 at the MACU Baseball Field on Saturday.

GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored four runs on seven hits without committing any errors while Southwestern Christian finished with three runs on five hits and notched a pair of errors.
  • MACU struck first in the bottom of the third inning as Noel McGarry-Doyle drove in Tylor Richey with a sacrifice fly to center, giving MACU a 1-0 lead.
  • The Evangels manufactured another run via the sac fly as Andrew Enwiya knocked in Makael Shaw with a flyout to center to extend the MACU edge to 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Entering the top of the seventh with its backs against the wall, SCU fired up its bats by pushing three runs as Tyler Reeves delivered in the clutch for the Eagles driving in two runs with a single to right center to take a 3-2 lead in the top of seventh with two outs.
  • With MACU down to its final three outs, the Evangels needed to come up with a late inning rally. With one out in the inning, Carlos Medina reached first with a single to center before trading places with Jacob Police as he beat the throw from the second baseman to avoid a game-ending double play on the fielder's choice.
  • Down to its final out, MACU brought its hit leader Yan Ely Adames to the plate in hopes to stay alive. On the second pitch, Adames drove a high fly ball into deep right field and left the yard for a walk-off two-run blast to win the game 4-3 and win the series in heroic fashion. The blast marked Adames' team-leading third of the season.
  • Isaac Baez put together his best start of the season, allowing just two earned runs and throwing a season-high 6.1 innings while also striking out a season-high six batters. Baez was given the no-decision after SCU took the lead in the seventh inning.
  • The victory allowed the Evangels to record their fifth-straight series win to start the season.

  • Mid-America Christian scored four runs on six hits as Southwestern Christian finished with six runs on six hits with neither team committing an error. 
  • MACU manufactured the first run of the game by executing an early steal with Cole Fuecker getting caught in a rundown to allow Tylor Richie to score from third on the play with two outs in the first.
  • SCU took the lead in the third inning as Jhors Gomez knocked in two runs with a single to right field.
  • In the bottom of the fourth Andrew Enwiya continued his hot hitting streak at the plate with a two-run home run to right-center, cutting the SCU lead in half at 5-3.
  • Both teams scored one run each in the fifth inning making it 6-4 entering the top of sixth but SCU pitcher Gabriel Figueroa shut down the Evangels in the final two innings to finish off a complete-game performance with 12 strikeouts.
  • The loss in the series finale snapped MACU's
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will make the short trip to Chickasha, Okla. for a three-game series against No. 19 Science & Arts on Thursday, Mar. 9 and Saturday, Mar. 11 at Bill Smith Ballpark. The opening game on Thursday is slated for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
