Baseball Ready for First SAC Road Series at Science & Arts

OKLAHOMA CITY – After taking two out of three against Southwestern Christian in its first SAC series, the MACU baseball team will take the short trip down to Chickasha for its first road SAC series as the Evangels will take on Science & Arts at Bill Smith Ballpark on Friday and Saturday. MACU will open the three-game slate with a nine-inning affair on Friday before facing off in a 1 p.m. Saturday doubleheader.

  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian opened Sooner Athletic Conference play with a three-game series against Southwestern Christian last weekend. The Evangels opened the series with a dominant day from the plate, slugging a single-game record five homers while Ryan Harney earned his fourth complete-game victory of the season in a 13-3 win.
    • In the second game of the series, the Evangels took a 2-0 lead into the top of the seventh, but the Eagles were able to push across three runs in the top of the frame to grab the one-run lead. In the bottom of the seventh, the Evangels were down to their final out, but Yan Ely Adames came up clutch once again by driving a walk-off two-run homer over the right field fence to propel MACU to a 4-3 victory.
    • The Evangels were able to grab an early 1-0 lead in the series finale, but SCU battled back with five runs over the third and fourth innings to grab a 5-1 advantage. MACU was able to get three more runs back on an Andrew Enwiya two-run homer and an Adames RBI single, but MACU was unable to complete the comeback to end up falling 6-4.
    • Noel McGarry-Doyle put together a huge week from the dish, slashing .571 with a pair of doubles and a homer, all of which coming in the series-opener to go with five RBIs and three runs to improve SAC leading total to 25 on the year. Andrew Enwiya also put together a big week batting, slashing .400 (2-for-5) with both his hits going yard for five RBIs and four runs.

    • Science & Arts faced off in a tightly contested series at Southwestern Assemblies of God last weekend as the Lions won all three games in the series: 3-1, 8-6, 4-3.
    • The Drovers enter the weekend as one of the top hitting teams in the SAC, posting the league's third-highest batting average (.310), on-base percentage (.419) and slugging percentage (.458). However, the Drovers have struggled in the pitching department, boasting just the seventh-best ERA (6.04).
    • USAO is led by one of the best bats in the SAC in junior infielder Christopher Martinez, who is posting the conference's fourth-highest batting average (.417) while driving in the third-most runs (23) and scored the sixth-most runs (19).
    • Serving as the Drovers No. 2 last year, Josh Harrell has been the ace of USAO's squad in 2023, turning in a 3.45 ERA and a 3-1 record through 31.1 innings of work. Harrell has efficiently struck out 26 batters and walking just six. In his first season with the Drovers, Megumi Fukuda is boasting a solid 3.71 ERA and despite walking 26 batters to striking out 29, Fukuda is limiting batters to just a .172 batting average.
    • Last season, MACU opened the series with an 8-5 victory over the Drovers at the MACU Baseball Field on Mar. 31, however, Science & Arts was able to fight back and win the series with a pair of 4-1, 7-1 victories at Bill Smith Ballpark on Apr. 2.
