    • Junior starter Isaac Baez has continued to make a historic move on the mound for the Evangels during the mid-season. By tossing his second complete-game shutout of the season on Saturday, Baez extended his scoreless inning streak to 22 innings, breaking MACU legend Keisy Portorreal for the most consecutive scoreless innings for a pitcher in the NAIA Era (2007-present).
    • Baez also became just the fourth MACU pitcher in the same time frame to record two or more shutouts in a season and is the third different MACU pitcher to do so in the last three years after Brad White (3) in 2021 and Frensly Leito (2) in 2022.
    • The Santa Maria, California native also enters the weekend as the top pitcher in the NAIA in strikeout to walk ratio. With 63 strikeouts and just six walks, Baez holds a 10.5 ratio, sitting as the only player in the NAIA with a more than 10-to-1 ratio.
    • Currently, sophomore outfielder Noel McGarry-Doyle enters the weekend as the only player that ranks in the SAC Top 10 in batting average (.386, 9th), on-base percentage (.526, 2nd), slugging percentage (.693, 6th), runs (41, 2nd) and stolen bases (12, 7th).

  • Team Notes:
    • Wayland Baptist is coming off a tough showing at No. 23 Southwestern Assemblies of God last weekend as the Pioneers opened the series with a pair of losses 3-0 and 9-6 in a doubleheader on Apr. 1 before putting up a three-run ninth inning in the series finale to salvage a 10-7 win on Apr. 2.
    • The Pioneers rank in the middle of the pack in the SAC in batting average (.297, 5th) and on-base percentage (.404, 5th), but are one of three teams in the league slugging above .500 (.503, 3rd). WBU is also a solid pitching team, ranking fourth in the league in ERA (4.96) while also tallying the fourth-best fielding percentage (.959).
    • WBU is led by arguably the best bat in the SAC in sophomore first baseman Arturo Disla, who is posting a SAC-leading .426 batting average and a league-best .796 slugging percentage while also ranking second in the conference in doubles (16), second in home runs (8) and third in RBIs (48).
    • Ty Jackson has also been one of the better arms in the SAC this season, posting the league's fifth-best qualifying ERA (3.19) while effectively striking out 60 batters to only 16 walks issued.
    • Even though Wayland Baptist leads the all-time series, the Evangels will be looking to replicate the same success they had in Plainview last season. In last year's series from Mar. 12-13, the Evangels were able to come away with a pair of 4-3 victories before dropping a 4-3 decision in the finale to pick up the squad's first series win over the Pioneers since 2018.
