Women’s Basketball Prepared to Face Southwestern Christian on White Out Night

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU women's basketball team is prepared for its third home game in the last six days as the Evangels will host Southwestern Christian for White Out Night inside the Gaulke Activity Center at 6 p.m. tonight.

MACU SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 13-6 (7-6 SAC)
  • Last Game: Won vs. Oklahoma Panhandle State – 65-53 – Jan. 27, 2024 – Gaulke Activity Center
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian faced an Oklahoma Panhandle State team that was looking to upset the Evangels on Saturday as the Aggies were able to keep it to within a single-digit game through the first three quarters, but the Evangels managed to pull away in the fourth quarter to secure the 65-53 victory.
    • The Evangels were a team averaging 68.1 shots per game entering that contest against the Aggies, but OPSU managed to take MACU out of its element by holding the Evangels to just 49 shot attempts, its second-fewest of the season. However, MACU was able to shoot an efficient 42.9 percent for the game while converting on 77.3 percent of its free throw attempts.
    • MACU as a whole has shot well from the free throw line the last two games, converting on 14-of-18 (77.8 percent) in the win against Wayland Baptist and 17-for-22 (77.3 percent) against the Aggies.
    • A big reason for the recent free throw shooting success is due in large part to Jaci Calavan. Earlier this season, the Stillwater, Oklahoma native converted on 44 consecutive free throws and is currently on a 24 consecutive makes streak. Currently, Calavan is only one of six players in the entire NAIA who is shooting better than 93 percent from the charity stripe (93.3).

  • Team Notes:
    • Southwestern Christian was able to get out to a fast start against Wayland Baptist on Saturday, leading by as much as 10 in the first quarter and held a 19-11 advantage at the end of one. However, the Eagles were unable to slow down the Flying Queens the rest of the way as WBU outscored them 53-33 the rest of the way to pull out the 64-52 win inside Pickens-Springer Arena.
    • While SCU possesses the fifth-best scoring defense in the league at 61.1 ppg allowed, including the best three-point defense in the SAC at 24.8 percent, the Eagles offensively possess just the eighth-best scoring offense (64.3 ppg).
    • Despite the offensive struggles, Southwestern Christian is led by one of the most talented guards in the SAC in MJ Case. Coming into the contest, Case is averaging the third-most points per game in the league (17.2) while also ranking second in assists per game (4.5) while also leading the team on the glass (6.2 rpg).
    • Mid-America Christian will be seeking to split the season series after Southwestern Christian defeated the Evangels 77-67 at Pickens-Springer back on Jan. 8. The Eagles managed to jump out to a 33-22 lead at the halftime break and while the Evangels were able to make some strong second half adjustments, MACU was unable to put much of a dent into the SCU advantage.
