No. 24 Women’s Basketball Returns Home for Monday Night Matchup against Central Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – After picking up its first road win of the season, No. 24 MACU Women's Basketball will be seeking its seventh-straight win to start the season as the Evangels return home to take on Central Christian for a 6 p.m. tip-off inside the Gaulke Activity Center.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 6-0 (2-0 SAC)
  • Last Game: Won at Nelson – 68-58 – Nov. 16, 2024 – Waxahachie, Texas
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • After trailing by seven at the conclusion of the third quarter, Mid-America Christian put together a downright stifling defensive effort in the win at Nelson on Saturday as the Evangels outscored the Lady Lions 19-2 in the fourth quarter to eventually run away with the 68-58 victory inside the Sheaffer Center.
    • In the victory, MACU set a new NAIA Era (2007-present) program record from the free throw line as the Evangels went 15-for-15 from the stripe, marking the first time that MACU had ever made 100 percent of its free throw attempts while making 15 or more foul shots. It was just the third time MACU had made 100 percent on 10 or more tries.
    • Another massive factor in the contest was the Evangels ability to take advantage of Nelson's turnovers. Overall, MACU managed to score 28 points off the Lady Lions' 17 turnovers while Nelson could only muster four points off MACU's 17 giveaways.
    • Through six games this season, Mid-America Christian has been one of the best rebounding and free throw shooting teams in the country, ranking 13th in the NAIA in rebounding margin (14.2) while posting the 22nd-best free throw percentage (77.6).
SCOUTING REPORT
Central Christian (Kan.)
  • Record: 2-4 (0-2 SAC)
  • Last Game: Lost at No. 13 Wayland Baptist – 89-78 – Nov. 16, 2024 – Plainview, Texas
  • Series vs MACU (2003-): MACU leads 22-2
  • Last Game vs MACU: MACU won 98-39 – Feb. 10, 2024 – McPherson, Kan.
  • Series Streak: MACU won 20
  • Players to Watch:
    • Chloe Clevenger – SO – G
      • 94 Points (15.7 ppg), 32-82 FG (39.0%), 12-36 3FG (33.3%), 18-24 FT (75.0%), 49 Reb (8.2 rpg), 31 Assists (5.2 apg), 19 Steals (3.2 spg)
    • Hallee Winsea- JR – G
      • 63 Points (10.5 ppg), 21-64 FG (32.8%), 15-48 3FG (31.3%), 6-8 FT (75.0%), 15 Reb (2.5 rpg), 6 Assists (1.0 apg), 5 Steals (0.8 spg)
    • Kayla Hall – JR – G
      • 52 Points (8.7 ppg), 19-42 FG (45.2%), 9-25 3FG (36.0%), 21 Reb (3.5 rpg), 9 Assists (1.5 apg), 8 Steals (1.3 spg)
  • Team Notes:
    • Despite coming up with a pair of tough road losses, Central Christian put up a tough fight at Sooner Athletic Conference preseason favorite No. 13 Wayland Baptist on Saturday as the two teams were tied going into the halftime break and the Tigers trailed by just five at the end of the third quarter before eventually suffering an 89-78 defeat inside the Hutcherson Center.
    • A big reason why the Tigers were able to hang around was due to the play of sophomore guard Chloe Clevenger. The McPherson transfer has made a huge impact on the Tigers roster so far this season as she is averaging 15.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 3.2 steals per game. In the defeat at WBU, Clevenger put up a double-double, scoring 23 points and pulling down 10 boards to go with five assists.
    • Despite making some strong off-season additions, Central Christian has still been quite challenged on the offensive end as the Tigers rank just 11th in the SAC in scoring average at 59.2 ppg while posting the 10th-best shooting percentage (36.8). However, CCCK this season has been a team that's lived and died by the three as no team in the SAC has made or attempted more threes than the Tigers, who have converted on 57-of-180 (31.7 percent).
    • Of all of MACU's SAC foes, Central Christian is the opponent where MACU has won the most consecutive meetings as the Evangels have won 20-straight against the Tigers since the 2006-07 season. In last season's meetings, the Evangels came away with a 104-55 victory inside the Gaulke Activity Center on Jan. 6 before handing the Tigers a 98-39 victory in McPherson, Kansas.
