SEMINOLE, Okla. – The MACU baseball team had to play a "home-away-from-home" game against Randall due to field conditions on Tuesday, but the Evangels had no problems playing the Saints at Seminole State as the Evangels cruised to a 16-1 victory at Lloyd Simmons Field.

PITCHING DECISIONS TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its 16 runs on 10 hits while Randall tallied its lone run on six hits and committed five errors.
  • With Taiga Sakuma, D'Andre Gaines and Guillermo Velasco all notching triples in the contest, the Evangels tied their NAIA Era (2008-present) single game three-baggers record, matching the mark initially set against Bacone on Mar. 30, 2018 as well as against Baker on Feb. 19, 2022.
  • MACU also reached a top five mark in stolen bases, finishing just one shy of cracking into the top five with seven, all of which came in the first three innings.
  • MACU took advantage of a pair of Saints errors in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs on a D'Andre Gaines RBI infield single, Marcus Burton drawing a bases-loaded walk and Taiga Sakuma driving one more in on a fielder's choice chopper to short, making it a 3-1 game. MACU utilized its speed by stealing four bases in the frame.
  • Randall plated its only run in the top of the second when Ale Villegas lined a double to deep right-center before Garrett Jeffcoat brought him in from third two batters later on a sacrifice liner to left.
  • The Evangels continued to pull away by doing some big time two-out damage in the bottom of the second. After Medina drove one in on an RBI infield single that glanced off the glove of the pitcher, the Saints strategically intentionally walked Burton to load the bases to create a force out at any base situation. It was a strategy that backfired big time for the Saints as Sakuma hammered a bases-clearing three-RBI triple to the right-center field gap, swelling the MACU advantage to 7-1.
  • MACU kept pulling away with another huge five-run inning that featured three extra-base hits, including an RBI triple by Gaines, an RBI double by Kyle Williams and a two-run homer by Carlos Medina to extend the lead to 12-1.
  • In the fourth, MACU notched three more after Gaines and McGarry-Doyle reached on back-to-back hit-by-pitches before Williams smashed a liner double to the right field wall to bring both in. Williams scored later in the inning on Medina's RBI grounder to make it a 15-1 game.
  • The Evangels' lone other run the rest of the way came in a big time pinch-hit by Guillermo Velasco, who legged out a triple on a deep liner to center field, plating Caden Harris to ultimately seal the 16-1 final.
  • Two different MACU players turned in four-RBI days as Medina batted 2-for-4 with his two-run homer while Sakuma notched four on a 1-for-2 day with his bases-clearing triple.
  • Williams and McGarry-Doyle each scored three runs as Williams slashed 2-for-2 on his pair of doubles with three RBIs to spare and two walks while McGarry-Doyle went 0-for-2, but reached on an error, a walk and a hit-by-pitch.
  • MACU rolled with a bullpen day that was started by Ryan Harney, who got the no-decision after allowing one earned run on three hits with no walks and three strikeouts over two innings of work.
  • Dylan Lyddon picked up the win after tossing two very strong innings, allowing just one baserunner on a hit to go with a strikeout.
  • Klevert Martina also threw two very strong innings of relief, allowing just a hit and striking out two before Cruz Perez tossed the final inning with one hit allowed and one strikeout.
  • As a whole, MACU's pitching staff was outstanding, allowing no walks or hit-batters with six hits allowed, just two for extra bases.
  • With the win, the Evangels improved to 34-8 against the Saints since the 2004 season and are currently on an 11-game win streak in the series.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will be back on the road this weekend as the Evangels will head to Winfield, Kansas for a four-game series against Southwestern. MACU will open with a doubleheader on Friday slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch at the Broadway Sports Complex.
