GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its 14 runs on 17 hits and committed an error while Oklahoma Panhandle State notched its seven runs on eight hits with five miscues.
  • After a scoreless first, the Evangels were able to clear the bases in the top of the second to capture a 3-0 lead when Taiga Sakuma slapped a single to left for a pair of RBIs before pinch-runner Tylor Richey scored from first on a muffed catch by the third baseman.
  • MACU pushed across two more runs in the top of the third on a Noel McGarry-Doyle solo home run and a Jacob Police sacrifice fly before adding a trio of runs in the fourth on another McGarry-Doyle two-run blast to center and a Carlos Medina RBI base knock to make it an 8-0 game.
  • Kyle Williams gave MACU its largest lead of the game in the top of the fifth by cranking a two-run homer to center to set the score to 10-0.
  • Oklahoma Panhandle State finally pushed across its first run after loading the bases on a lead-off single and back-to-back walks. However, MACU starting pitcher Devan Quesada was able to limit the damage to just one run off a Bill Bonner sacrifice fly as he was also able to induce a strikeout and a groundout to keep it to one run.
  • The Evangels were shaping up to have a huge sixth inning as MACU loaded the bases for D'Andre Gaines to hit an RBI single to left-center to stretch the edge back to 11-1, but the Aggies were able to force McGarry-Doyle into hitting into an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play.
  • Even though MACU's pitching and defense was cruising through the first five innings, OPSU put together a crooked number in the bottom of the sixth as the Aggies scored six runs in the frame to close it back to an 11-7 game.
  • However, the red-hot bat of Jacob Police was able to help the Evangels get some more separation as he slugged a three-run blast over the left-center field wall to stretch the lead back to 14-7 before eventually wrapping with that final score.
  • Quesada earned the win in his start as he allowed just one earned run on two hits with two walks while six batters.
  • Police, Gaines and Medina each recorded three-hit games for the Evangels as Police finished 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a homer for a team-high four RBIs and three runs as well as reaching on a hit-by-pitch.
  • Noel McGarry-Doyle became the 34th MACU player in the NAIA Era to record two home runs in a single game as he finished the contest slashing 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a trio of runs to go with a walk and a stolen base.

PITCHING DECISIONS TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its 18 runs on 21 hits and committed a pair of errors while the Aggies scored their lone run on five hits and made three errors.
  • The Evangels opened the flood gates immediately by scoring five runs in the top of the first on a Noel McGarry-Doyle sacrifice fly and back-to-back RBI knocks off a Carlos Medina single up the middle and a Jacob Police double to the left-center field gap before Joel Nieves hammered a two-RBI double to the very same gap.
  • MACU added three more runs to their lead over the next two innings as a D'Andre Gaines RBI double followed by another Noel McGarry-Doyle deep sac fly to center allowed Gaines to score all the way from second in the top of the second before Zachary Stark smacked an RBI single to left-center in the bottom of the third to stretch the lead to 8-0.
  • The Aggies scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the third when their best hitter Ryota Kusumoto hammered a two-out solo shot over the center field fence to close the gap to 8-1.
  • However, the Evangels immediately got the run back with some insurance in their half of the fourth when a Taiga Sakuma lead-off double and a Gaines walk preceded Kyle Williams hammering his second home run of the day with a three-run jack over the left-center field wall, extending the edge to 11-1.
  • The score held until MACU all but put the game out of reach with a seven-run sixth frame. Carlos Medina started the scoring onslaught by bashing a two-RBI double to the left-center field gap before two batters later, pinch-hitter Guillermo Velasco would clear the bases with a three-run launchpad home run to center. Later in the frame, Gaines hammered an RBI triple to right-center before McGarry-Doyle wrapped up the scoring with an RBI single up the middle to close out the 18-1 final.
  • Returning to the starting rotation, senior pitcher Zane Robeaux twirled a gem, allowing just one earned run on five hits with no walks and nine strikeouts over six innings of work. Carlos Escobosa also threw a stellar inning of relief, striking out three batters while allowing just one to reach via an error in the seventh.
  • The MACU bats were incredibly balanced as four different Evangels finished with three RBIs. Williams led the charge by hitting 4-for-5 with a double and a homer while scoring three runs with his three driven in. Medina got his triple ribs from a 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs, McGarry-Doyle finished 1-for-3 with a single and a pair of sac flies and Velasco got his three from his pinch-hit homer in the sixth.
  • Gaines came across to score four times in the contest after slashing 3-for-4 with a double and a triple to go with a pair of RBIs.
  • Sakuma found himself in the record book at the end of the game as he batted 3-for-5 with three runs. All three of his hits ended up being doubles as he tied Jeff Eubank (May 4, 2011) and Yan Ely Adames (Apr. 29, 2021) for the most two-baggers hit in a single game in the NAIA Era (2008-present).
  • Police also turned in a three-run game after going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
  • By getting the win, the Evangels notched their fourth-straight Sooner Athletic Conference series victory to start the season.
