PITCHING DECISIONS TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its 16 runs on 16 hits and committed one error while Oklahoma Panhandle State notched its two runs on eight hits and made three miscues.
  • The Evangels started the scoring onslaught in the top of the first as Noel McGarry-Doyle and Kyle Williams notched their first of 11 RBIs as a run-scoring double for McGarry-Doyle and an RBI base knock by Williams made it an early 2-0 MACU lead.
  • MACU added three more in the top of the second on an infield RBI single by Taiga Sakuma before Williams notched his second and third RBIs on a double to the left-center field gap to extend the edge to 5-0.
  • Oklahoma Panhandle State got a run back in both the bottom of the second and third innings to close the gap to 5-2, but those would be the only runs MACU starting pitcher Isaac Baez would concede in the contest.
  • The Evangels blew the game wide open in the top of the fourth by putting up an eight-run frame. Back-to-back RBI doubles by McGarry-Doyle and Williams started the scoring streak before Williams came across to score on a wild pitch. It eventually got back to the top of MACU's order as Sakuma notched another RBI infield single and D'Andre Gaines drew a bases-loaded walk before McGarry-Doyle cleared the bases by dropping a flyball single into the right-center field gap to make it a 13-2 game.
  • MACU chipped in three more insurance runs in the sixth as Gaines slapped an RBI groundout before McGarry-Doyle and Williams wrapped up their stellar days with back-to-back RBI singles to extend the advantage to 16-2.
  • The Evangels ended the contest on a stellar defensive play as MACU reliever Jacob Mallozzi induced a 7-2 flyout double play as Joel Nieves made an incredible throw home to get the runner at third trying to score on a sacrifice fly.
  • McGarry-Doyle's day put him in MACU's NAIA Era (2008-present) record book as his six RBIs are the fifth-most in a single game by a MACU player as the junior outfielder slashed 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and scored three runs. The last MACU player to notch six RBIs in a game was German Sepulveda in a 25-14 victory over the Aggies in the SAC Tournament at Jim Wade Stadium on May 7, 2022.
  • With his six RBI day, McGarry-Doyle became just the fifth player for MACU in the NAIA Era to eclipse 90 career RBIs (91), needing just three more to surpass former teammate Andrew Enwiya (2022-23) for the fourth-most in the career record book. The Maple, Ontario, Canada product also moved into the career top five in total bases (192), surpassing Luis Martinez (187, 2011-12) while also becoming just the third player in the career books to surpass 90 career runs (92).
  • Williams also put together a career day at the plate as the junior first baseman slashed 4-for-5 with two doubles, five RBIs and scored a run.
  • Gaines also tallied two doubles on the day, finishing 2-for-4 with a walk and scored a team-high four runs.
  • Sakuma also wrapped up his day with a trio of runs scored and a pair of RBIs after going 2-for-5 from the dish.
  • By improving to 7-1 on the mound, Baez moved into a tie for the lead for the most pitching wins in the NAIA as the senior righty threw six innings and allowed just two earned runs on six hits with a walk and 10 strikeouts.
  • Overall in the series, Mid-America Christian put together one of its most dominant offensive three-game SAC slates in program history as the Evangels outscored Oklahoma Panhandle State 48-10.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian return home to start an 11-game home stand on Wednesday as the Evangels will face off against No. 17 Oklahoma Wesleyan in non-conference action. The contest is slated for a 2 p.m. first pitch at the MACU Baseball Field.
