  • Mid-America Christian scored its four runs on six hits and committed an error while Wayland Baptist tallied just four hits with two miscues.
  • With the two teams' aces going against each other in MACU's Rachel Eggleston and WBU's Addy Rich, both teams struggled to find scoring opportunities as neither team managed to get a runner to third through the first five innings.
  • Finally, in the top of the sixth, the Evangels broke through as Kisbel Vizcaya reached on leadoff single to center and stole a pair of bases before Brooklyn Wilson drew a one-out walk to put runners on the corners. With Morgan Fowble coming to the plate, she laid down a safety squeeze bunt single to the pitcher as the throw home was unable to get Vizcaya, giving MACU the 1-0 advantage.
  • With runners at the corners again, Brooklyn Wilson managed to score on a passed ball to make it a two-run game and with Stormy Haynes drawing a walk and stealing second to put two runners in scoring position, Makenzie Thurman wrapped up the scoring in the contest by knocking a two-RBI single ultimately wrap-up the 4-0 final.
  • Eggleston put together another outstanding showing in the circle by throwing six shutout innings, allowing only three hits and two walks while striking out a pair. Gia Reynosa also threw a scoreless inning of relief in the seventh, stranding a leadoff single in her outing.
  • While being held to just six hits, four of MACU's batted balls came from the bats of Vizcaya and Thurman as Vizcaya finished 2-for-4 with a run and a pair of stolen bases while Thurman slashed 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its four runs on six hits with four errors while Wayland Baptist tallied two runs on six hits and also made four miscues.
  • Much like game one, both teams struggled to find scoring opportunities as neither team had a runner get past second base against MACU starter Avery Schneringer or WBU starter Amber Poorbaugh until the bottom of the fifth.
  • The Pioneers were able to break through for the first time in the series in the bottom of the fifth when Jadyn Fernandez reached on a well-executed bunt single down the first base line before advancing to third on another perfectly placed sac bunt by Amber Poorbaugh. However, the run came across to score when the relay throw got Fernandez advancing to third got away, giving WBU its first lead of the weekend at 1-0.
  • Wayland Baptist also scored its second run as a result of an error as Arianna Zubia reached on a two-out fielding error by the third baseman before stealing second and then scoring on Mikayla Carrillo's RBI single right to make it a 2-0 game.
  • Much like opening game, the Evangels offense once again broke through once it reached the top of the sixth. With one out in the frame, Stormy Haynes reached third on a throwing error by the third baseman trying to get the out at first before Kisbel Vizcaya slapped an RBI grounder to third to cut the deficit to 2-1.
  • With two outs in the frame, the Evangels registered three-straight hits as an Emylee Campbell single and advancement to second on a throwing error by the left fielder set up Brooklyn Wilson for the game-tying RBI single to the left-center field gap. After advancing to second on the throw, Makenzie Thurman plated Wilson with an RBI single to center to give MACU the 3-2 advantage.
  • The Evangels added one more run of insurance in the top of the seventh when Morgan Fowble reached on an error before Cierra Russell singled to right to put runners at the corners. After Chana Wolfe came in to run for Fowble at third, she came across to score on a wild pitch during Haynes' at-bat to set the score to 4-2.
  • Wayland Baptist tried to mount a late rally when Fernandez reached on a leadoff single to left and advanced to second on an error. However, the Evangels abruptly ended the rally when Haynes at second snared a liner and got the unassisted double play by stepping on second before the runner could get back to wrap-up the 4-2 final.
  • Schneringer got the win after tossing her fifth complete game of the season, allowing just two unearned runs on six hits with no walks and struck out four batters.
  • For the second-straight game, Thurman led the MACU batting efforts by slashing 2-for-3 with an RBI while Brooklyn Wilson also turned in a two-hit game after going 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
  • By getting the win, MACU has locked up no worse than a split against the Pioneers, needing just one more win to capture the series victory. It marks the fifth-straight SAC series the Evangels have either won or split.
  • The victory also allowed the Evangels to become just the third team in the SAC to reach 25 overall wins with No. 2 Oklahoma City and No. 6 Science & Arts being the other two teams.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will wrap-up the series at Wayland Baptist on Saturday as the Evangels close it out with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
