  • The Eagles put together a major scoring threat in the top of the first as a pair of singles by Hannah Keele and Jessie Moralez put a pair on before Madison Jones slapped a single to center, however, Brooklyn Wilson made a sensational defensive play by throwing out Keele at home trying to score.
  • The momentum carried over to the MACU bats in the bottom of the first as the Evangels were able to get to SCU starter Harli Clem early and often. The first five batters reached as a Kisbel Vizcaya single and a Hallie Wilson walk set up a Talyn Wheeler RBI single up the middle to give MACU the lead.
  • After Brooklyn Wilson dropped a shallow flyball single to right to load the bases, Makenzie Thurman bashed a two-RBI double to left before a Karlee Danielson RBI groundout to short stretched the advantage to 4-0. Two batters later, Stormy Haynes notched an RBI bunt single to short before coming around to score herself after stealing second and coming home on Morgan Fowble's RBI double to right-center field gap to make it a 6-0 Evangels lead after just one inning of play.
  • MACU added an insurance run in the bottom of the second when Hallie Wilson drew a lead-off walk and went from first to third on Wheeler's sac bunt before Brooklyn Wilson drove her in on an RBI groundout to short, setting the score to 7-0.
  • Southwestern Christian scored its only run of the day in the top of the fourth as a Madison Jones leadoff double and a Maliyah Patton single put runners at the corners with one out before a grounder to first resulting in an error plated Jones to set the score to 7-1.
  • The Evangels stretched the lead back to seven in the bottom of the fourth as a Hallie Wilson double to right-center and a Wheeler bunt single down the third base line put runners at the corners before an attempted double-steal allowed Wilson to score to make it an 8-1 game.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, MACU walked the game off after loading the bases on a Thurman walk, an Emylee Campbell hit-by-pitch and a Haynes bunt single, setting up Vizcaya who bashed a deep ball to left-center to bring the game-ending run across to close out the 9-1 final.
  • In the circle, Chana Wolfe put together a solid bounce-back start, tossing her second complete game after allowing just one earned run on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts over five innings of work.

PITCHING DECISIONS TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its eight runs seven hits while the Eagles tallied four hits and committed five errors.
  • The Evangels once again scored early in the bottom of the first when Kisbel Vizcaya reached on a leadoff single down the right field line, stole second and after getting to third on an errant throw by the catcher, Vizcaya scored on a wild pitch to set the score to 1-0.
  • The Eagles tried to muster a big threat in the top of the second when Maliyah Patton and Addison Hanna started things off with back-to-back singles, but MACU starting pitcher Rachel Eggleston settled down to induce a strikeout, a popout to the catcher on a bunt and a flyout to right to keep the lead intact.
  • MACU opened up the scoring with a big four-run second as an Emylee Campbell leadoff walk, a steal of second and a Stormy Haynes walk set up a successful double steal for the Evangels' second run. Morgan Fowble then slapped an RBI single through the right side to make it a 3-0 game. Later in the inning, MACU took advantage of a pair of Southwestern Christian errors as Hallie Wilson reached third on a dropped pop-up by the first baseman, allowing Vizcaya to score before Talyn Wheeler chopped an RBI single to short to make it a 5-0 MACU advantage.
  • The Evangels once again mustered a major threat in the bottom of the third by loading the bases on an Aubrey Meyers single, a Haynes walk and a Fowble hit-by-pitch with two outs, but SCU starting pitcher Addison Hanna managed to get Vizcaya to popout to second to end the threat.
  • With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, MACU made a charge to end the game. With runners at first and second and two outs, Fowble hit a tailing liner to right that the diving right fielder could not stop as the two-RBI double brought in Campbell and Meyers, setting the score to 7-0. After loading the bases on back-to-back walks drawn by Vizcaya and Karlee Danielson, Wheeler ended the game by chopping a ground ball just barely out of the reach of the third baseman at the hole at third and short for a walk-off single to wrap-up the 8-0 final.
  • For the first time since 2019, the Evangels completed back-to-back eight-run rule victories over Southwestern Christian. The last time it happened fell on Mar. 26, 2019 where MACU recorded an 8-0, 12-0 sweep at Allen Field.
  • Eggleston continued her historic run in the circle for the Evangels as the redshirt junior pitcher became just the second MACU pitcher in program history to record 10 career complete game shutouts, allowing just four singles and a walk while striking out four and inducing an impressive 10 flyball outs. While getting her 46th career win, the Kiowa, Oklahoma native is now just two victories away from matching former teammate Regan Martin (2018-21) for the most career wins in the MACU record book.
  • Fowble led the balanced MACU batting efforts by going 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs while Wheeler notched the only other two Evangels RBIs, slashing 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will aim for the series win on Saturday as the Evangels host the doubleheader finale against the Eagles at Allen Field starting at noon.
