Women’s Soccer Beat by Bellevue 1-0 in First Loss of Season

PAPILLION, Neb. – The MACU Women's Soccer team struggled to get into the attack against a very strong Bellevue program at Papillion Landing on Saturday as the Evangels suffered their first loss of the season by a score of 1-0.

SCORING SUMMARY
  • 1st Half – BU – 41:44Goal: Lauren Chetty (1), Assist: Sami Reding – BU 1, MACU 0
MATCH SUMMARY
  • First Half
    • Bellevue (6-1-2) managed to put shots on-target early and often, but MACU goalkeeper Rachel Torres came up with multiple saves, including in the 5th, 6th, 12th, 24th, 30th, 33rd and 35th minutes.
    • MACU's only shots on-goal in the half came off the foot of Gladis Avalos in the 36th and 38th minutes, but BU goalkeeper Alessia Ricciardi managed to stop both attempts to keep it to a scoreless game.
    • In the 42nd minute, the Bruins who had persistently put shots on multiple times over the course of the half finally found the back of the net off Lauren Chetty's first score of the season with Sami Reding being credited for the assist.
  • Second Half
    • MACU's defense was a little more fundamentally sound in the second half, only allowing on-target shots in the 50th and 62nd minutes, but Torres once again came up with saves on both shots.
    • However, Mid-America Christian (5-1-2) also struggled to generate on-target shots in the second stanza against the Bruins stout defense as Stephanie Arrivillaga's attempt in the 56th minute was the only shot that found its target, but was once again saved by Ricciardi.
    • The best scoring chance for either team in the second half happened in the 71st minute when BU's Mia Hurt had a shot ricochet off the post.
GAME NOTES
  • Bellevue held an overall 16-6 shot advantage over the Evangels with a 10-3 edge in shots on-goal.
  • Despite suffering the loss, MACU goalkeeper Rachel Torres finished with a career-high nine saves while allowing just the single goal for a .900 save percentage. It comes off a performance against Columbia where she tied her career-best eight saves on Wednesday.
  • Of MACU's shooting efforts, Stephanie Arrivillaga and Gladis Avalos were the only Evangels to record multiple shots with two apiece.
  • With the defeat, Mid-America Christian falls to 0-2 all-time against the Bruins since suffering a 2-0 loss at the Dill Soccer Field last season while wrapping up non-conference play with a solid 5-1-2 overall record.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will officially open Sooner Athletic Conference play on Saturday as the Evangels will host Wayland Baptist (Texas) for an Alumni Day match at the Dill Soccer Field. The contest is slated for a noon kickoff.
