No. 18 Women's Basketball Returns Home Against Nelson

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 18 MACU Women's Basketball team will be looking to start up a win streak as they return home Saturday Jan. 18 to take on the visiting Nelson Lady Lions with a tip-off slated for 2 p.m. inside the Gaulke Activity Center.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 15-2 (11-2 SAC)
  • Last Game: Won at UNT Dallas (Texas) – 77-55 – Jan. 16, 2025 – Ellis Davis Fieldhouse
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • It a slow start from the field the Evangels, however Mid-America Christian kicked it into another gear in the second half outscoring UNT Dallas 46-31. MACU's bench was a big part of the offensive surge as 40 of the 77 points scored came via the second unit.
    • Syncere Harrod and Hailey Tunnell both had stellar days combining for 35 of the 40 MACU bench points. Harrod has played some of her best ball against UNT Dallas this season as she is averaged 21.0 ppg in the two matchups. On Thursday night she set season highs in points (23), shots made (9), and shots attempted (13.) Hailey Tunnell tied her season high in threes with four on an incredibly efficient 4-of-5 from three-point land.
    • With Harrod and Tunnell contributing greatly in the offensive column, it was a rather quiet night for the Evangels starting lineup as they attempted a season low 32 shot attempts. 40 points by the starting lineup was the second lowest in a victory this season just missing the 39 posted in the 53-45 win over OCU on Dec. 14, 2024.
    • Picking up a 20-point victory margin ranked the highest on the road this season for the Evangels and marked the second time in three games they have beaten a SAC opponent by at least 20 points with an 81-43 win over OPSU on Jan. 9.
SCOUTING REPORT

  • Series Streak: MACU won 2
  • Players to Watch:
    • Kate Miller – SO – F
      • 165 Points (9.7 ppg), 56-165 FG (33.9%), 15-66 3FG (22.7%), 38-57 FT (66.7%), 87 Reb (5.1 rpg), 17 Steals (1.0 spg)
    • Autumn Moore – SR – G
      • 146 Points (8.6 ppg), 49-121 FG (40.5%), 39-50 FT (67.2%), 19 Steals (1.4 spg)
    • Paris Miller – SO – F
      • 138 Points (8.1 ppg), 56-155 FG (36.1%), 85 Reb (5.0 rpg), 7 Blocks (0.4 bbg)
  • Team Notes:
    • It has been a tough stretch for the Lady Lions as they are recipients of five straight losses with four of the five games being on the road. It appeared as if Nelson was going to snap the losing streak yesterday, however OCU rallied back outscoring the Lady Lions 20-11 in the fourth. On the positive side Nelson had a chance to tie the game late to force overtime but a three-ball from Lauryn Salice with four seconds left was no good, resulting in a 57-54 win for OCU.
    • The Lady Lions have been very challenged on both the offensive and defensive ends against SAC competition as UNTD ranks just eighth in scoring offense (62.0 ppg) while shooting the fourth-lowest field goal percentage (35.7) and second-lowest three-point percentage (25.8). Defensively, Nelson is giving up the fifth-most points (66.2 ppg) and is tied with MACU with the most three-pointers allowed with 118. Nelson does like to shoot the three-ball of their own with the third-most per game (7.8.)
    • Nelsons's offensive is very spread out with Kate Miller leading the charge with 9.7 ppg. The Lady Lions live by the three-ball with a conference leading 512 attempts overall, they currently have four players who have attempted over 65 triples with Ashley Gonzalez leading the team behind the arc with 25 threes in 67 attempts (37.3 percent.) Offensively speaking, the Lady Lions will have to get it going early and often as they have reached 70 points just twice this season compared to MACU's average of 76.2 per game.
    • Mid-America Christian has won nine of the last 10 games against Nelson with the 68-58 victory on Nov. 16, 2024. The Lady Lions gave the Evangels a run, as they entered the fourth with a 56-49 lead, however the Mid-America Christian defense locked things up in the final stretch allowing a commanding 19-2 advantage in the fourth quarter to complete a comeback victory.
