No. 18 Women’s Basketball Seeks Rebound in Welcoming Back Southwestern Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – After taking on Southwestern Christian inside the Gaulke Activity Center back in December, the No. 18 MACU Women's Basketball team will be facing off against the Eagles at home once again as Thursday night's game has been moved to MACU due to water damage inside SCU's gym with tip-off slated for 6 p.m.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 16-3 (12-3 SAC)
  • Last Game: Lost vs. (RV) Langston (Okla.) – 62-55 – Jan. 20, 2025 – Gaulke Activity Center
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian suffered a tough loss to Langston on its home court on Monday. The two teams were relatively even through the first quarter, but the Lions went on an 18-6 run through the first 7:22 of the second quarter before taking a 33-25 lead into the break. MACU fought back through the first 11 minutes of the second half, closing it to a one-point game at 48-47 on Syncere Harrod's jumper with 9:16 to go in the fourth. However, another 12-2 Langston run through the midway portion of the fourth allowed the Lions to pull away and escape with 62-55 win.
    • After losing their leading rebounder in Harley Harbour due to injury within the first minute of the contest, MACU struggled to contain Langston on the glass as the Evangels were out-rebounded 42-35 while possessing a 20-9 lead on the offensive side. That played a key factor as the Lions held a 15-4 edge in the contest in second chance scoring.
    • MACU struggled against Langston's pressure defense as the Evangels turned the ball over 17 times to just nine giveaways for the Lions, which also resulted in an 18-8 margin in points off turnovers.
    • Despite the tough result, Harrod did provide a little bit of a spark off the bench for MACU both offensively and defensively. The senior center finished the contest with 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting to go with six boards, but also tallied four blocks on the defensive end, making it the most by a MACU player in a single game this season.

  • Team Notes:
    • In just their second home-away-from-home game against Central Christian inside Abe Lemons Arena on Saturday, Southwestern Christian snapped a five-game losing streak as a huge 24-point fourth quarter allowed the Eagles to pull away with a 59-51 victory.
    • It's been a tough season offensively for SCU in Sooner Athletic Conference play this season as the Eagles rank just eighth in scoring offense (62.6 ppg) while ranking 10th in field goal percentage (35.8). SCU has also struggled on the defensively, possessing the ninth-ranked scoring defense (65.8 ppg) with the eight-best field goal defense (37.6). The Eagles have also struggled on the glass as their -3.9 rebounding margin is ninth in the SAC.
    • The four-player tandem of Chrissen Harland, Kennedy Allison, Delaney Reimer and Jayden Mason have carried a bulk load of the Eagles scoring with Harland leading the squad at 13.6 ppg on a 36.9 percent shooting clip while going 32.3 percent from three-point range and shooting a solid 77.8 percent from the line.
    • In their previous meeting on Dec. 12, Mid-America Christian asserted itself early, outscoring Southwestern Christian 21-8 in the first quarter before eventually pulling away with the 82-63 victory. In that win, MACU put together a balanced scoring effort with five players breaking into double-figures, led by Mary Nyakundi who scored 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting while Harley Harbour tallied 16 points and yanked down 17 rebounds.
