MATCH SUMMARY
  • First Half
    • Nelson opened with good spells of possession firing the first shot on goal to force a routine save out of the Evangel goalkeeper, Ariana Solorio.
    • In the 20th minute, Liv Houlston played a perfect ball in behind the Lions defense, where Brae Baker timed her run to perfection and found the finish just inside the right post on the first shot on target for MACU.
    • Solorio made a fantastic diving save as Stephanie Hernandez's shot in the 35th minute was seeking the top right corner. However, the Evangels quickly doubled their lead just three minutes later as a loose ball fell right to Maria Scopino on top of the 18-yard box. Her clinical finish bounced off the inside of the left post and into the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season.
    • Just three minutes later, Caitlin Hirst scored on a beautiful solo run dribbling past four Nelson defenders before slotting her finish into the bottom right corner for her first career Evangel goal.
  • Second Half
    • Maria Scopino, in search of her first career brace, struck the cross bar off a headed attempt in the 64th minute from a corner kick delivered by Liv Houlston. Houlston and Scopino have connected for goals twice off corner kicks this season.
    • A penalty kick was awarded to Nelson in the 69th minute as Savannah David stepped up to take it. Ariana Solorio made a big save on the initial kick, but the rebound fell right back into the path of David who put it away, to put the Lions on the board.
    • MACU invited the pressure on in efforts to hold onto its 2-goal advantage. Solorio continued to make clutch saves with a pair of them coming in the 82nd and 85th minutes to keep the Evangels' advantage.
