OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Women's Basketball team caught fire in the second half while defensively stifling Arlington Baptist in the first ever meeting between the two programs as the Evangels cruised to an 83-50 victory over the Patriots on Homecoming inside the Gaulke Activity Center on Saturday night.
The result allowed first-year head coach
Scott Morris to collect his first coach win with the Evangels.

GAME SUMMARY
- First Quarter
- It was a back-and-forth battle through the first six minutes as the Evangels and Patriots exchanged the lead six times with Sophia Cortez making a layup to give ABU its last lead of the contest at 12-11 with 4:12 remaining.
- With 3:49 remaining, Talayah Thomas knocked down a cold-blooded three from the left wing to jumpstart a 9-3 Evangels run capped off on a Camryn Jordan layup with 1:30 to go, setting the score to 20-15.
- While the Patriots got a pair of free throws from Sa'Nya Green to cut it to a one-possession game with 43 seconds to go, Jordan came up big for MACU to close out the quarter as she pulled down an offensive board and putback with eight seconds left to stretch the MACU advantage to 22-17.
- Second Quarter
- After Monique Carter converted a layup on MACU's first possession of the second quarter, both teams went silent from the floor for the next 3:17 before MyLeah Young drained a three for the Patriots to cut the deficit down to 24-20 with 6:16 remaining.
- That was the last bucket for ABU in the half as MACU scored the final eight points capped off on Thomas gathering an offensive board and throwing up an elbow jumper at the buzzer to send the Evangels into the break with a 32-20 lead.
- Third Quarter
- Mid-America Christian made some massive offensive adjustments heading into the third stanza as Taliah Lee's opening layup at the 9:48 mark jumpstarted a 13-0 Evangels run as Carter scooped in a layup with just under seven minutes left to build the MACU edge to 45-20.
- Between the second and third quarters, Arlington Baptist went nearly 10 minutes without a score before Young knocked down a trey at the 6:29 mark.
- After Sincere Roberts and Green traded buckets, Roberts and Brooke Quintana drained threes on back-to-back possessions to extend the Evangels edge to 53-25 with 4:28 left.
- Following Aniya Jackson's score with 3:16 on the clock, the Evangels closed out the third with a 9-3 surge to hold a commanding 62-30 lead at the end of three.
- Fourth Quarter
- Mid-America Christian captured its largest lead of the just 1:05 in as Quintana and Carter scored layups to extend the edge to 66-30.
- With 7:36 remaining, Arlington Baptist rattled off six unanswered to start a 15-6 surge capped off on threes on back-to-back possessions by Young and Precious Candler before Silah Flores buried a trey from the right wing to close it to 74-47 with 4:04 remaining.
- The Evangels swung back with nine in a row with Brooklyn Hunt scoring MACU's last bucket on a left-side lay-in with 44 seconds left before Candler wrapped up the contest with a trey from the top of the key with 19 seconds to go to wrap-up the 83-50 contest.
GAME NOTES
- After a sluggish second quarter where the Evangels shot just 4-for-15 (26.7 percent), Mid-America Christian bounced back with a strong shooting second half to finish 36-for-73 (49.3 percent) from the field, going 6-of-19 (31.6 percent) from three.
- MACU's stingy defense held Arlington Baptist to only 19-of-52 (36.5 percent) shooting, knocking down 9-for-28 (32.1 percent) from range with a 5-of-11 (45.5 percent) coming in the fourth quarter.
- The Evangels defense forced the Patriots into committing 33 turnovers, notching 25 steals on those giveaway for the third-most thefts in a single game since the program joined the NAIA in 2007. The last time MACU had as many steals came against Baptist Bible (Mo.) on Oct. 28, 2020 when the Evangels came away with a record 28 steals.
- MACU controlled the glass by out-rebounding the Patriots 39-31 with a 14-9 edge on the offensive glass.
- The Evangels especially dominated the painted area by outscoring Arlington Baptist by an astounding 48-20 margin in the paint.
- In their first official home games inside the Gaulke, Monique Carter and Caitlynn Jordan paced the Evangels with 17 points apiece. Carter shot 8-for-9 from the field to go with an astounding floor game with five steals, four assists, and three boards. Jordan notched her score on 8-of-17 shooting to go along with three rebounds and two steals.
- Sincere Roberts was the only other Evangel to break into double-figures with 10 points on 4-for-8 from the field.
- Brooke Quintana provided a massive spark off the MACU bench with eight points to go with a team-high six rebounds, five steals, and two assists while Taliah Lee also tied a team-high six boards.
- Overall, 11 Evangels got to see the floor with 10 breaking into the scoring column.
- With the result, MACU takes the lead in the all-time series following the conclusion of the inaugural meeting.
