Men’s Soccer Sets Sights on Southwestern Christian in SAC Quarterfinal

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 3 seed MACU Men's Soccer team will be looking to start the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament on a high note against a crosstown rival as the Evangels host No. 6 seed Southwestern Christian for a 7 p.m. kickoff at the Dill Soccer Field in the Quarterfinal round on Tuesday night.

  • Record: 7-7-4 (5-2-2 SAC)
  • Last Match: Won vs. Texas Wesleyan – 2-0 – Oct. 28, 2025 – Dill Soccer Field
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian wrapped up its regular season on a high note in its Senior Night match against Texas Wesleyan last Tuesday as the Evangels grounded out a hard-fought 2-0 win. MACU came up with the game-winning goal in the 64th minute as Matias Garcia drew a foul in the box to set up Papa Toure for the game-winning penalty kick. The Evangels added an insurance goal with 5:14 remaining on Joao Victor score.
    • The goals for both Toure and Victor marked their first career goals with the Evangels while Ryan Jeanfreau and Carlos Lobo moved into a tie for the team assists lead with their fourth of the year on the double-assisted goal to Victor.
    • The 2025 SAC Tournament marks the first time the Evangels won't be the top seed since the 2020-21 season. However, MACU as the No. 2 seed that year still came away as the league tournament champion when it defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State 6-0 in the quarterfinal and Science & Arts 3-1 in the semifinal. Facing an Aaron Hoxie led Central Christian in the championship game, the Evangels and Tigers battled to a 0-0 draw through regulation and overtime before MACU outscored CCCK 3-0 in the postgame shootout to claim its second ever SAC Tournament title.
    • Finishing only two points back of regular season champ Oklahoma City (19) and a point behind John Brown (18), the Evangels were in the mix for the title until near the end as MACU allowed the fewest goals in SAC play (8) and also posted the best goal differential (17-8) in the league this year.

  • Team Notes:
    • After getting off to a strong start to SAC play, going 2-1-1 through the first four matches, things started going south for Southwestern Christian when it faced off against the Evangels on Oct. 11 as the Eagles went 0-2-3 over the final five matches to finish in the No. 6 spot in the SAC standings. However, SCU did draw a solid result on Oct. 21 when it went into Siloam Springs, Ark. and came away with a 2-2 draw.
    • On the offensive side of the pitch, junior forward Augustine Mateos has led the Eagles attack with seven goals and 15 total points while netting four of SCU's seven game-winners on the year. Junior midfielder Gabin Desplats has been the most pivotal for setting up the Eagles attack with seven assists, ranking as the third-most in the SAC this season.
    • Defensively, senior goalkeeper Enzo Camps has been the starting stopper for SCU the last two years. This season, Camps enters SAC play with a 7-4-5 record in-goal while ranking fifth in the league in both goals allowed average (1.29) and save percentage (.710).
    • The last time the two teams squared off came at Cagle Field up in Bethany on Oct. 11. In that contest, Ryan Jeanfreau headed in the go-ahead goal in the 25th minute off a hefty Haruya Higuchi throw-in. The Eagles scored the equalizer in the 53rd minute before MACU scored the winning goal in the final minutes. With 2:49 remaining, Josh Macklin's right side set piece cross found Necsar Rojas in the middle of the box as he muscled through a defender and tapped in the winning goal off the inside of the right post to seal the 2-1 victory.
