Men’s Basketball Seeks Bounce Back at Science & Arts

OKLAHOMA CITY – After seeing its eight-game win streak snapped in a heartbreaking defeat at Central Christian on Monday, the MACU Men's Basketball team will be seeking to get back on the winning track tonight as the Evangels head down to Chickasha to take on Science & Arts inside the USAO Fieldhouse in Chickasha.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 18-6 (14-6 SAC)
  • Last Game: Lost at Central Christian – 80-73 (OT) – Feb. 10, 2025 – McPherson, Kan.
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian came dangerously close to capturing its ninth-straight win at Central Christian on Monday as the Evangels were able to grab a nine-point lead with 4:34 left on Josiah Fulcher's floater. However, Central Christian battled back over the final four-and-a-half to tie the game with 1.7 seconds left before pulling away with the 80-73 win in overtime.
    • Despite suffering the loss, the tandem of Josiah Fulcher and Juwan White were huge for MACU, combining to score 54 of the Evangels' 73 points as Fulcher poured in a career-high 29 points on 12-of-23 shooting while recording his second double-double of the season with 12 boards. White tallied 25 points while also recording a career-best five steals.
    • White made his mark in MACU's NAIA Era (2007-present) record book in the contest as the senior guard went 15-for-17 from the free throw line. The 15 made foul shots tied the single-game program record that was initially set by MACU Player of the Decade Charlie Shorter in an 84-75 win at Science & Arts on Jan. 19, 2012 before DaRaun Clark matched the mark in a 107-98 win over Kansas Christian inside the Paycom Center on Oct. 27, 2022.
    • Even though MACU saw its eight-game win streak snapped, the Evangels are still in the hunt for the Sooner Athletic Conference regular season title. MACU is still just 1.5 games back of Nelson (16-5) at the top of the league table and a half-game back of Wayland Baptist (15-6) in second.

  • Team Notes:
    • After putting up its best offensive performance in a 92-76 win over College of the Ozarks on Feb. 6, Science & Arts had a reversal of fortunes against John Brown inside the USAO Fieldhouse on Saturday. The Drovers ended up with its season-low scoring output in a tough 60-48 home loss to the Golden Eagles.
    • The Drovers enter tonight's contest ranked in the middle of the pack of the SAC in scoring offense, averaging the seventh-most points (72.7 ppg) while defense has been the biggest challenge for the Drovers, ranking second-to-last in scoring defense (78.1 ppg). Science & Arts has also been challenged on the glass, ranking third-to-last in the league in rebounding margin (-5.3). Even though USAO is the best team in the SAC in taking care of the basketball, giving the ball up just 10.4 times per game, the Drovers have been unable to force turnovers at a strong clip, forcing the third-fewest giveaways at 10.6 per contest.
    • The trio of Mohand Ammad, Ryein Kennedy and Cade Allen have paced the Drovers offense with Ammad leading the squad at 15.3 ppg on a solid 47.1 percent shooting clip as well as cleans up the glass at 5.7 boards per game. Kennedy does most of his work from the free throw line as the sophomore combo guard has scored nearly a third of his 317 points from the free throw line with 106 made foul shots.
    • In their last meeting inside the Gaulke on Jan. 2, the Evangels made life miserable for the Drovers offense as MACU held USAO to just 36.5 percent shooting, including 5-for-19 (26.3 percent) from three-point range. Meanwhile, Mid-America Christian put together an incredibly balanced offensive effort with six players scoring in double-figures and narrowly missing seven getting into double-figures as MACU pulled away with the 87-69 victory.
